In Dr. Strangelove, Peter Sellers plays three people. The Dr. Strangelove character, the President and the RAF character

He was going to play a 4th character as well because that was part of the conditions set by Colombia Pictures otherwise they would refuse to fund the movie, as he was also supposed to be Maj. "King" Kong, who was eventually played by Slim Pickens

> It’s well known that Peter Sellers played three roles in the film: Group Captain Lionel Mandrake, President Merkin Muffley, and the titular character, Dr. Strangelove. But Colombia Pictures originally set a condition for Kubrick: The studio would only finance the film if Sellers played at least four roles in the movie.

> In addition to the three aforementioned characters, Sellers was originally meant to play the Air Force Major T. J. “King” Kong, but Sellers was reluctant since the beginning. He initially voiced his concerns to Kubrick stating that he was worried about the workload and was afraid that he would not do the character’s strong Texan accent justice. Kubrick managed to convince Sellers to take on the role and even elected co-writer Terry Southern who was raised in Texas to help Sellers with his lines. But once filming started, Peter Sellers fell on set, exacerbating an injury the night before and was unable to continue with filming in the cramped cockpit set.

I think I recall that and eventually the role fell to Pickens and he plays the role as if the film is a straight comedy to an extent

Ewan McGregor in Fargo Season 3 was pretty fantastic in my opinion.

Also Mia Goth in X and Pearl

I thought about that myself but he does play Tom Lincoln with his natural accent (and comes across as a perfect asshole), almost the opposite of 6-Echo

Guess you've never seen a movie with Tilda Swinton in it

There’s a term for actors that can do it all like Gary Oldman. He’s a chameleon actor.

And then there’s actors like Jonny Depp that have found what they’re really good at and are sought just for that same exact role. I’m forgetting what actors like that are called.

Depp was a chameleon earlier in his career.

know, and he’s good at it. But ever since Jack sparrow, he’s been kinda limited to that character.

There’s definitely better examples of type cast actors.

It's not a movie, but since I saw Orphan Black, every movie with multiple characters that I have seen before didn't achieve the same level. It set the bar too high.

Hollywood needs to come up with something like that.

Orphan Black was a great show. Strangely it wasn't the first major film/tv show set in Toronto where one person played multiple leading roles.

I think I'd also say that Orphan Black was the best I've seen it done on a TV show, and that Dead Ringers is the best I've seen it done in a movie.

Back to the Future kills it at this. Michael J Fox plays 1985/2015 Marty, Marty Jr, Marlene, and Saemus. Thomas F Wilson plays 1955/1985/2015 Biff, Griff, and Buford. James Tolkan plays Principal Strickland and Marshall Strickland. Lea Thompson plays Lorraine and Maggie.

I get that it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I liked how they did this in Cloud Atlas to visualize the idea of reincarnation.

I was just thinking about there movie Multiplicity the other day and it fits this to a T. A decent movie that really allowed Michael Keaton to shine.

Dead Again, starring Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson (also directed by him), is such a good example of this being done. Branagh plays two characters (neither of which speak with his native English accent), Thompson plays two characters, both pairs of characters exist in different time periods, the two of them were married when they made this and as a result have baller chemistry, it's good shit.

Alec Guiness played (I think) nine roles in Kind Hearts and Coronets.

And in India, veteran actor Sivaji Ganesan played nine roles in the experimental film Navaratri.

And while people may be sick of the MCU, there is Tom Hiddleston's Lokis and Jonathan Major's Kang.
