What are the top 3 best DreamWorks sequels and why?

Shrek 2 is an incredible addition to the Shrek franchise. I'd say it's as perfect as you can get for a sequel. It builds on the characters and shows us a different side to Shrek, as well as Fiona's family and the worldbuilding of the kingdom.

I also think Kung Fu Panda 3 is easily overlooked. It's a wonderful exploration of father-son dynamics, which aren't often portrayed to be healthy and vulnerable. When Po's adoptee dad was getting jealous, it was so heartwarming.

Sequel to a spin off of a sequel.

Yea? That should count.

The action scenes are on a Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon level. And the villain is ideal 🦚

I also love the flashbacks to Po’s childhood, and the heightened stakes that force the team to be better at working together

I have to go Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. That movie got me excited in a way no movie has done in years.

Same. I’m convinced that Death is one of the greatest animated movie villains of all time. And that this movie is better than anything Disney has done in decades. Instant classic, that I rushed to see even though I rarely go to theaters anymore.

My choices too. They all expand on the world of the first movie in a way that makes things even more meaningful.

I'll reserve my judgement until they reboot the franchise with a sequel that ignores the original sequels

I came here to say it was obviously Shrek 2 then I saw the other options and actually it’s quite tight.

Of what I've seen, Shrek 2 or Kung Fu Panda 2. Never saw How to Train Your Dragon.

You’re missing out big time by having not watched How to Train Your Dragon. Some of the best animated movies I’ve ever seen

Hol' up -- what Dreamworks sequels are there other than

  • Shrek,
  • Puss in Boots,
  • H2TYD,
  • Madagascar, and
  • Kung Fu Panda

(yes, I know how to Google -- but the point is that these are the only ones which come to my mind, so they would be the only ones for me which could fulfill the OPs question)

Shrek 4

Shrek 2 is too overrated and is the most beloved Shrek movie.
