After watching recent trailers and clips for the new Dungeons & Dragons movie, I was confused as to the reasoning behind Justice Smith's character having a slightly off British accent when he's playing alongside other American actors using their own accents. There are also British actors in the movie, so why not just get another one to play his part, or just let him use his own accent? Obviously it's hard to know if there's a story reason for his accent until the movie releases.
This got me to thinking about other instances where an actor changes their accent for a movie without the part requiring it due to story or setting, and the possible reasoning behind it. What instances have stuck out most to you?
