Not sure if it's the same movie but I remember a HK movie from when I was a kid with a similar scene. If it's the same movie I remember the baby getting a choice between a rocking horse toy and a sword? Vaguely recall a firey backdrop too. Swordsman had come home to find his wife slain and home on fire with only the baby/kid who then picked the sword. I have some more vague memories of that movie if it happens to be the same one?

I'm pretty sure you're looking for The New Legend of Shaolin starring Jet Li from 1994, which pays hommage to Lone Wolf And Cub. Minor spoiler: The scene you mentioned plays out with his son, that he's considering to kill, lol. I adore that movie to this day, transports me right back to my childhood!
