That was his credo after Titanic, I believe. To only work with A list directors.

I thought he got very vocal about changing his characters in the 2000s but I recently heard Cameron say he brought his dad in and they wanted to add some ideas to the character and story.

I agree but it's kinda funny that he plays a guy whose wife has a mental breakdown and he is troubled by her death, being the main plot point in two movies, both of which came out in 2010.

Sure, but his characters in Shutter Island and Inception are different

Agreed, but it's uncanny how similar the two movies are.

Leo hallucinates about his wife and children in both, both movies have major and important sequences in heavy rainfall and snow, and at the end, in both movies it is revealed that >! Leo's characters actions was what had led to the death of their wives- planting an idea or murder out of rage !<

Very interesting. You'd think that's the one thing he'd have told Nolan to consider changing when he made him go rewrite for 6 months.

That’s what all the top tier actors end up caring about, to a large extent. Who is directing.

There's a lot of good and probably even great directors who are not considered A-List. There's also some considered A-List who are a bit whiffy, I'm sure.
