This is specifically talking about scene in which the main characters are shown to actually be doing the singing and music rather than just a scene which puts a lot of emphasis on the music driving the scene, meaning that such scenes like "I'm Still Here" from Treasure Planet and and some of the scenes in "In The Mood For Love" where it plays its iconic music.

For me, it would be:

  1. "Moon Song" from "Her": https://youtu.be/bVnQmll4kyU
  2. The final rap monologue from "Blindspotting": https://youtu.be/0isJhUwLBtM
  3. "Hellfire" from "The Hunchback Of Notre Dame": https://youtu.be/-NP-RsRGzVo
  4. "Sweet Transvestite" from "Rocky Horror Picture Show": https://youtu.be/lwUjJXxoGy4
  5. "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love" from "Blues Brothers": https://youtu.be/EHV0zs0kVGg

I've avoided musicals as it made it too easy

  1. I mean it's just cheating that Blues Brothers exists. James Brown killing it and Rawhide are probably my favorites, but I mean come on.....

  2. Miles singing along with Sunflower just did such a wonderful job of setting the tone for Spiderverse.

  3. Puttin on the Ritz from Young Frankenstein.

  4. Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.

  5. I am a Man of Constant Sorrow.

Isn't just music playing in the movie rather than them singing the song in-universe? The AIDS would definitely count tho.

Oh ya. I guess you’re right. It’s still a banger though.

In no particular order:

- The old guy and Mama Corleone singing at Connie's wedding in the opening of The Godfather.

- The scene from Clue where they play "Life Could be a Dream" and stage the corpses to look like a party is happening.

- Jack Rabbit Slim's Twist Contest in Pulp Fiction.

- War drums/flaming guitar as the war party rolls out in Mad Max: Fury Road

- Marty playing Johnny B. Goode at the end of Back To The Future.

Rocky Horror Picture Show

No specific scene. The entire movie is incredible and astounding.

The first time Peter O'Toole breaks out into song in The Ruling Class. The movie is insane under a veneer of sophistication... which is basically the point of the film.

The Ruling Class

Now there's a name title I have not heard in a very long time.

Genuinely one of the weirder films I've ever seen. A snippet to accompany your afternoon tea. And a song to go with it!

Caught it on the Criterion Channel and genuinely felt like I discovered an unknown classic. Appreciate you adding the links!

"Let's Build a Snowman" from Matt Stone/Trey Parker's Cannibal: The Musical. For what was essentially a sideproject while they were at university, they had a lot of hits in there.
