That’s a shame, The Last Duel is an incredible movie if you can get past the fact they aren’t trying to do French accents.

I purposefully picked a popular movie to make my point. I am sure it is great, but the terrible cultural realism made it impossible for me to watch as a French person.

Imagine a movie taking place in the USA where actors are all french, speak french, and act as in a french movie. Wouldn't that ruin it for you? (assuming you are North American, but the logic works for other countries too)

If the movie was good, I honestly wouldn’t mind at all. Sure the realism/immersion is broken, but not all movies are striving for, or even care about that. Sometimes breaking the immersion is a cinematic choice in itself. With the case of The Last Duel, the purpose was not to paint a realistic portrait of France during the 1300s; the purpose was to tell a more universal, Rashomon styled story that resonated with the “me too” movement that was happening at the time.
