What is a movie you love from a genre you don't?

We all have that one genre that we do not like. What is that for you and what is a movie in it you enjoy? I personally am not a big fan of horror or romantic movies. I don't mind romantic comedies but full-blown romance dramas are just not for me. That being said for whatever reason I love the conjuring movies. They are scary enough but not too much to make me shit my pants. As for a romance movie I love, The Vow. Yes, the Channing Tatum movie from long ago. It just makes me feel.. not annoyed for some reason.

I cannot stand romance, but My Big Fat Greek wedding is pretty entertaining. I should reiterate. I don’t like sappy romance.

It’s such a relatable movie too there’s no grand gestures (as nice as they seem they’re just not realistic to me), love triangles, or a stupid miscommunication trope.

It’s so simple and I love that.

Similar for me, but with a different movie - The Holiday. Two women who have bad relationships end up swapping houses for Christmas and each others' social circles help them out of their ruts.

I much prefer Iris' story compared to Amanda's, even if I do like her storyline as well. Iris makes friends with an old Hollywood screenwriter who knows all about how stories and outright uses his knowledge of movies to help her recognise her own flaws and strengths.

Hacksaw Ridge. I’m not a fan of war dramas, but I saw the last half of this when my partner was watching. Was so interested I checked out the entire movie the next day and thought it was excellent.

Unless strong violence deters you as well, for high octane, long shot minimal cuts martial arts films, The Raid: Redemption and Raid 2 blew my mind with their choreography. Beautiful and brutal ballet of skills.

I love martial arts, but I don't like superhero films which all contain fighting scenes these days.

I did enjoy that Thor movie with the Matt Damon cameo

This is a bit of a weird take because Ip Man is a pretty standard outing for a Hong Kong, period martial arts movie. I suspect you might like martial arts movies more than you think as long as it's a period piece. You should try anything featuring "Wong Fei-Hung" as a character.

I feel the same. Not into westerns either but Doc set in a western setting was the perfect way to end that trilogy. The other western that I like is The Magnificent Seven. ...well, maybe that and The Three Amigos which is the comedy version of The Magnificent Seven.

Ooo if you liked The Good, The Bad & The Ugly, you should check out Yojimbo. Essentially it's a Japanese film from early 1960s that was a big source of inspiration for the westerns like that one of Fistful of Dollars.

Check out Django unchained then. I'm into zero westerns, but this is a top 10 movie for me, wish I saw it in theaters. Hilarious and amazing.

I don’t like gangster movies, but I love Oscar and enjoy Analyze This, Analyze That and Mafia.

I don’t like martial arts movies but I love Kung Pow (where the heckin feck is my sequel dag nabbit!?)

I don’t like action movies unless they’re from the 90s: Demolition Man, The Fifth Element, Last Action Hero, Starship Troopers. There are a few exceptions but generally I just find action movies too difficult to watch.

I don’t like westerns but I like Back to the Future Part III and Carry on Cowboy.

Not into romcoms at all but Love Actually is an absolutely fantastic film. Every single bit of acting is excellent and it’s the only acceptable time to dislike Alan Rickman.

I'm another one that's not big into westerns but I loved *Lone Star (1996) if that even counts as one.

Come to think of it I also love Tremors - can I lump that into Westerns? What about Breaking Bad? I may have to rethink this.

A Futile and Stupid Gesture is the only biopic I really enjoyed. It's about Doug Kenney and his time at the National Lampoon. It's on Netflix, made by David Wain, and has a ton of good cameos.

Tombstone. I'm not into westerns, but I like Tombstone. Tarantino's westerns are good too, but his movies are kind of a genre of their own.

Rom-comedy, I don't think they're even funny nowadays. But Kevin Smith and Judd Apatow made great rom-comedy movies. They're funny in authentic way. And yes, Jersey Girl is good movie, too.

The Devil Wears Prada. Saw this multiple times last week and it'sa perfect comedy. Streep is amazing and I enjoyed the rest of the performances.

Knight & Day. Not really an action fan (and even less of a Cruise fan) but this movie is so fast paced, utterly unrealistic in every way, yet completely entertaining.
