Before I watched the movie whenever I heard the soundtrack it sounded really nice and I liked it. But today I actually saw the movie… and it didn’t work for me.

During soft moments they play full on hard rock and during sad moments they play uplifting music.

Maybe this was intentional and making some kind of artistic statement but I suspect not. I don’t know it’s just a German thing or just unique to this movie.

There’s two motifs within the soundtrack. There’s the typical orchestral score that is more traditional, and the thundering, ominous electric organ sound that punctuates specific parts of the movie. I assume what you’re referring to is the latter.

It’s not meant to be a moving, emotional piece. It’s a raw, guttural reaction. It’s all together foreboding, terrifying, and resonant. It definitely took me by surprise the first time I heard it, but as the film progressed it ended up being almost like a callback of sorts. Like you’d almost forget about it, then the organ would hit and you’d immediately be taken back to that feeling of dread.

I really appreciated a totally different approach to scoring a war epic, and it’s one of the most memorable aspects of the film in my opinion.
