Just finished watching this movie, and it was something else! It’s a fairly grotesque, violent, horror film, but it’s easily the most stunning horror film I’ve seen visually and artistically.

The use of colors, visuals, audio, and animation blends well into the story and if there was a movie genre called, “acid-horror”, this movie would be the epitome.

I like, if not love, most things I’ve seen Nic Cage in, and he’s turned up to 11 in good chunks of this one. The supporting cast does a great job as well, and it was good to see Bill Duke make an appearance as well.

This movie is what I imagine a terrible trip to feel like; it’s awful, confusing, and painful to watch if you imagine you’re the main character, but it’s also like it takes place on another planet. It’s like watching John Wick fight the Manson family in Alice’s Wonderland.

I love Mandy. I know it’s not a move for everyone but for me, if a movie doesn’t have a chainsaw fight what are we even doing? Get your shit together Encanto. You expect me to care about a magic house when there’s no chainsaw fight? Un-fucking-likely.

Every time I watch it I'm more impressed what that absolute narcissist of a cult leader. Just a fragile entitled little nothing who makes shitty music. My absolute favorite scene is when they dose Mandy and he tries to seduce her and she just laughs at him.

Yeah that was fucking amazing! She absolutely destroyed him with that laugh, and you could tell she knew that is would crush him.

colors visuals audio - so it's a lot like beyond the black rainbow by same director of Mandy?

Same kind of style but I think Mandy is a lot better. I found Beyond the Black Rainbow to be kind of...slow for lack of a better word. Mandy has a stronger story to go with the style

I stumbled across beyond the black rainbow via pandoara or some other streaming service when i heard stuff from the sound track and saw the cover.... got me interested enough to track it down.

What gets missed about Mandy, I feel, is that it has some of the best character actors of the past 20 years in it. Those people that you know their faces, but maybe not their names.

It's an absolute classic in my opinion, and I wish it was more well known.

Cage is superb in it.

This director has a new segment out for Del Toros Cabinet of Curiosities if you like this vibe. It’s called The Viewing and it’s on Netflix.

It pairs well with Color out of Space (nic cage also) and Glorious.

Good to know. I just watched “Head” last week (Monkees movie from 1968) and that was trippy AF also (minus the violence and plot structure of Mandy).

Cant really speak on the acid range on those but for some visuals and story its good.
They both have that purple light effects.

Neat thing to think about is that Linus Roache was set to play Red originally and Nic was going to be Jeremiah, would have been a totally different feel to the movie.

I did not know that. Yes, would’ve been a very different movie.

I remember not liking the first hour at all beyond the visual style but it all being worth for the bombastic second hour.

I just watched this the other night and what a WILD film! I don't know if I would say I loved it, but I did love the aesthetic of it...which kind of feels like more of the point anyway. It's a rather loose and typical story, but with the way sound, light, and color are manipulated to take you into this lysergic nightmare is pretty stunning (in the most terrifying way).

Very intensely fascinating performance from Linus Roache, and well Cage is gonna Cage!

Yeah, agreed- the story is fairly straightforward but they add a cool fantasy/sci-fi twist. The main thing is the aesthetics and cinematography.

It's stunning. I watched it because I read a lot of Reddittors recommendations, and it blew my mind. It's one of those films, along with "X" that capture that Chainsaw Massacre vibe.

And, it has one of the best shots I have ever seen.

>! When Cage fights the other chainsaw man, he is in a subterranean. Then, he gets in a room with a "surgeon guy", and it's only shown his back. That shot kept in my mind on fire. How they capture the black background and the colours amazed me. I don't know exactly why, but was fucking incredible !<

I usually get shit on for saying this but I felt like Mandy and Antrum have a fun similar vibe if you want another movie to watch.
