Yeah by main stream I mean like the big blockbusters now, I see the matrix, blade runner etc as cult classics rather than mainstream because they weren't really the biggest at box office

You should. Watch blockbusters, watch (actual) cult classics, watch obscure films. Cinema's there to be explored.
