I think it’s a sorta fine/mediocre movie, but obviously a pretty poor “Michael Myers movie”. The marketing didn’t do it any favors, nor does it’s position as the third movie of a trilogy ostensibly about the battle of Laurie Vs Michael.

I give the filmmakers some kudos for taking some real risks (they had to know this thing wouldn’t go over well), but there’s a myriad of problems that bring it down for me. Characters basically turn into bizarro world versions of themselves, the dialog is as poor as ever, some of the worldbuilding / mythology / thematic stuff just doesn’t work when you spend longer than five seconds thinking about it, etc etc.

Agree 100% I think now they should just leave this franchise be from now on. Its made its history, film could have been better but also could have been worse i guess. But this is until some brain box gets an idea in years to come and says “oh i wanna do a remake or a new Halloween film”. Even though MM is DEAD DEAD for real this time. Because they know it will sell, regardless of how bad it could turn out. I’ll always love the franchise but fk me these last couple films have been a letdown. Dont fix what isn’t broken i reckon.

Yeah, I hear that. Everyone knows this will be rebooted yet again, it’s only a matter of time. If David Gordon Green wanted to go this route (which I highly doubt was the original plan, at least not in this structure), Michael should have died in the house fire in 2018 and Corey should have done his thing in the two follow ups, for better or worse.

I’m also a massive Halloween fan here too, but I’m ready for another break in the action so I can get back to watching the original film and the small handful of legitimately good sequels multiple times a year lol.

Smile was decent, even if it was a rip of Fallen. Look forward to seeing terrifier 2. But yeah horror hasn't been the same. I felt like the last scream kind of captured some of it tho.

Complete garbage. Snooze-fest of a movie with a terrible villain (so forgettable I don't remember his name)

They made Michael Myers a wimp who can be overpowered by an average young man and barely gave MM any screen time.

I get why he was overpowering him, as Corey was getting the power but idgaf about some kid getting the evil inside him. Michael Myers is the face of the franchise, he IS THE FRANCHISE. Why promote a movie with him on the cover but have 99.99% of FKN kills in the movie done by some little apprentice

Because this isn't actually a Micheal Myers movie. It's a Halloween movie.

Which is to say that this borrows heavily in spirit from Halloween 3. Infact, this set of 3 movies are all spiritual sequels to their counterparts in the original 3

1: Both have Myers break out of custody and wreak havok on the town and barely survive an uncounted with Laurie.

2: Set immediately after the first one, Laurie is take out of action for a large chunk of the movie, higher death count, Micheal actually gets in fights with the cast rather than just straight up murders.

3: Not a Micheal Myers story but rather part of an anthology. Similar opening blue title card with the same font.

But in the end, they know they need to actually finish Micheal's story, so it is tacked on at the end.

I'm not saying it's right, but they clearly made this movie (and trilogy) with the intentions of echoing the first one, which means that 3 needs to be atleast an attempt to look at another story that takes place on Halloween.

You said it in your second sentence, disappointed.

It almost felt like they knew how they wanted the movie to end but didn't have a beginning or middle. So they found a script for a thriller about a young couple falling in love, however the guy started doing some creepy shit like stalking and eventually starts killing. The only thing with this script was that it didn't have an ending.

So what do you do when you have one script with a beginning and middle, and another script with only and ending? Well you mash them together and get Halloween Ends.

It's not as bad as Battlefield Earth but damn is it close.

The ambulance driver in "Friday the 13th pt. V" was a better substitute killer.

It's a very good horror movie that happens to feature the final confrontation between Laurie and Michael from the otherwise unrelated Halloween films. Calling it Halloween Ends was stupid, H20 and Halloween 2018 are far more satisfying rematches. Should have been called Corey in the House.

Man, they didn’t have to do Michael dirty like that.

Its like they were going to make a decent movie about a guy getting possessed by Michael but the studio made them put the real Michael in,so they just threw him in at the end

I thought it was great. Really fun kills that it set up well in most cases. I really dislike all the other movies, including the original, and so I can see why me liking it probably means fans of the series would have issues with it. My least favorite part of them is Michael Myers (yawn) and so Season of the Witch and this one are the standouts for me.

I liked it. Thought it was better than Kills and one of the better Halloween films. I don't need every film to be a retread of Michael going on a killing spree. Michael seemed more impactful fucking up a town via paranoia and trauma after a spree than he ever can just doing damage in a single night. I also liked that they had Laurie finally have some peace.

Also not for nothing, this film series has 13 films and only 2 have positive critical reception, so it's not like the typical formula is all that much of a grand slam sure thing anyways.
