Scarface, and I still don't get why people like it, I think it's a thoroughly unpleasant watch

Respectfully disagree. I was engaged the whole time. So many iconic scenes. The one thing I will say is while Pacino did a good job Tony Montana was not written well. Not a very deep character and not very intelligent. Pacino still killed it though ofc

I think you nailed why I didn't like it -- I straight up didn't like Tony and couldn't connect with him (nothing against Pacino, the man acts his ass off in virtually everything he's in). Not connecting with Tony kinda disengaged me from caring about his journey.

Tbf I've only seen the movie once and it was something like 20 plus years ago, so maybe older and more mature me would feel differently on a second viewing.

What’s unpleasant about it?

I mentioned this in a reply to a diff comment but for me I just didn't like Tony. Wasn't a fan at all of the character and the way I watch movies (at least at the time, it's been decades since I've seen it) I just can't get into a movie with someone I see as an unlikable protagonist.
