Promising Young Woman (2020) - 4/10

Emerald Fennell's "Promising Young Woman" bore me to death. It was talked up so much by people I knew, citing it as "The Modern Kill Bill." However, it's similarity just made it even worse. I hated the organization of "chapters," especially with the focus on one antagonist in each of them. Other than that, it's whole "turning good guys into good guys" thing at the start was incredibly disappointing. In the trailer, it seemed as if she killed those guys. Instead, she "scared them into sexless bastards." It was overall not a good film.

I Am Sam (2001) - 10/10

Though I would say "I Am Sam" is critically acclaimed world-wide, it is rarely talked about. When you think of iconic portrayals of mental illness, you think of performances such as Edward Norton's in "Fight Club" and Angelina Jolie in "Girl, Interrupted." However, my favorite portrayal of mental illness is barely ever talked about. I can't fathom how underrated this film is. In my opinion, Sean Penn's performance as the title character, Sam, was Oscar-winning. And, it should've won. It was truly his best performance among his most award-winning films of the decade (Mystic River (2003), Milk (2008)).
