Wondering what everyone thinks. It's one of my favorite horror movies, and it still has the best/scariest vampire makeup. I also totally dig the set designs.

I was surpised not too long ago to find out that it's partly considered a comedy. Except for a few tongue-in-cheek moments by Chris Sarandon, I don't see how its meant to be funny and thought any cheesy elements were meant to be an homage to classic horror such as with the Peter Vincent character.

The remake was not too shabby with great performances.

Huge fan, I even read the novelization as a kid for some reason.

I did think it was darkly humorous. "Welcome to FRRRIGHT! NIGHT! waggles long talon For real." Chris Sarandon was a serious threat, and there was always the sense that he loved injecting a cruel sort of sarcastic cat-and-mouse humor to his murders.

Pretty good soundtrack, too, for awesome 80s schlock.

Loved it. It's funny and full of heart.

The remake had strong performances but was really ugly. I lean towards liking it, the script is solid and the characters work. Not a patch on the original though.

This might be the only example I can think of where a remake is exactly as good as the original. There are a few examples where the remake is better and a lot of examples where the remake is worse, but this is the only one I know where both films are of roughly the same quality.

An iconic horror/comedy that drips Eighties glitzy while having terrific performances and well-aged visual effects.

I also thought that the remake was superb in it's own way.

Excellent movie I only watched it 2-3 years ago actually a decent length after the abysmal remake thing. Def one of my favs now it had a ton of great memorable scenes.

Jerry is my favorite vampire. Chris Sarandon is from my home state, was married to Susan Sarandon, and did the voice of Jack Skellington. He has a cameo in the Fright Night remake.

Remake was just a sad repackaging, bearing very little of the novelty of the 1985 movie.

As someone mentioned this is the super rarity. A great original and a remake that had no reason to be made and yet is also quite good. I'm curious how everyone thinks the actors/characters compare? For me the original had a far better Peter Vincent and Amy. The Remake had a better Charley and his Mom. Both versions of Jerry and Ed were great.

This is actually a damned good horror movie of the 80's. There were a dozen or so time which my father took me to the 2 for 1 matinees and most movies were damned good, and Fight Night was great in that run down little theater. This movie was so good, I forgot the other movie which it was paired with.
