With the recent "The New Justin Long Movie" being a fakeout for Barbarian Im wondering how often this has been done in the past. I remember The Forest being a secret Blair Witch movie. I WISH Prey was a secret Pred movie. Cloverfield lane is also a fun secretly in the universe of a different movie and it comes to mind.

Cloverfield Lane… is “secretly” set in the universe of what movie? Cloverfield?

Trailers were posted under 'the new Justin long movie' as opposed to the name of the movie. Trailer starts out focused on him and feels like a normal justin long movie until the end. That's a fake out

The Muppets from 2011 had a really funny fake out trailer that made the movie look like a generic romcom at first.

Halloween Ends, to a certain extent.

Cabin in the Woods. The trailers really sold at is a straightforward horror movie with absolutely no hints to its meta nature. I will never forget how delightfully surprised I was the first time I saw it.

Downsizing was pitched as a comedy about shrinking people, and for about half an hour it was just that. About 2/3 into the movie I was like, "wait...what fucking movie am I watching?".
I didn't watch any of the trailers for Prey, and just started watching it without any research. It took me way too long to realize it was a Predator movie. Honestly I probably would have skipped it had I known beforehand, but I'm glad I didn't. It was a lot of fun.
