We follow the rules:

-Know nothing before the movie starts except the title (no trailers, discussion, imdb, etc).

-Movies we both have never seen.

-I pick one movie, she picks the next.

We sometimes have a quiet interaction, but when the movie is good oh boy, do we discuss during it. Sometimes we have to pause to discuss theories without losing too much content.

Does anyone else does this? What movies brought the most discussions?

We recently had great discussions during Cache (Hidden), The Rental, Forgotten, The Mummy 1 (we have seen this one but it is such a classic and we didn't remember everything).

Any recommendations and personal stories are highly appreciated.

Unlikely one of you hasn't seen it, but Parasite would be an amazing one for doing this with.

The Secret in Their Eyes (the original Argentinian one, not the remake) would be good for this too.

Inherent Vice is fun for this because the main character is sorting through the smoky mystery just as much as the audience, and you feel like you uncover the truth with him

based on the Pynchon book.

But yeah my partner and I love doing this, or trying to figure out the thought process behind a scene, like why were decisions made to construct a scene the way it was, how it feeds into the thesis of the movie

My wife and I do this quite a bit. I'd consider us both well-read or media-literate when it comes to mysteries and thrillers, so we'll very often toss out our plot suspicions as we go.

If it's a TV show, we'll usually just shout it out, and if we get it right, high-five. Usually, that's only about an hour, maybe 45 minutes, so we aren't "spoiling" anything.

If it's a movie, though, and someone gets a suspicion, we'll text the other and leave our phones down for the rest of the film until we see if we were right, then discuss. That way, we don't ruin anything, right or wrong.

Film recs: The Game with Michael Douglas and Identity with John Cusack.

Three Identical Strangers.

It's a documentary, but it's a wild ride of twists and turns. Definitely don't read or watch anything about it. Watch it totally blind for the most intense experience.
