I was on a flight recently (Delta) and as I was scrolling, it was a bit surprising how many Denzel movies were available. IIRC, the following were included:

  • Glory
  • Malcolm X
  • Devil in a Blue Dress
  • Courage Under Fire
  • The Hurricane
  • Remember the Titans
  • Training Day
  • Man on Fire
  • American Gangster
  • Inside Man
  • Flight (misremembered)
  • The Equalizer
  • Fences

There are certain things I fully expect to see like all of Harry Potter, some rom coms, some superhero movies, etc. And I tend to enjoy Denzel movies so no complaints here. I'm just surprised his movies make up near 10% of what's available to watch on a plane.

He's a great actor and those are some fine films, across a whole range of genres. Something for everyone.

Prob need to ask Delta, since you're only going by their catalog.

Also Flight was an in-flight movie selection? Since they edit out any airplane-trouble scenes I wonder how that turned out.

I was on Turkish Air the other day and the only unedited movies I could find were Absolute Power, Bloodwork, and True Crime. Like a 90s Eastwood mediocre crime marathon.

Actually, I think Flight wasn't on there. I just happened to watch it last night at home because I got into a Denzel marathon due to browsing all the movies while flying.

Watched Absolute Power recently. How does a movie with Eastwood, Hackman, Linney, Harris, Glenn and Haysbert get to be soooo boring?

With a script by goddamn William goddamn Goldman goddamn, based on a book that sold for the highest amount ever for a first timer.

Aside from how generally dull the directing was, it's a great example of how a few asinine scenes can really overshadow a movie. For example - all the "we're the best at what we do" rah rah secret service spookiness, all the clandestine backroom secret hush hush lethal killer hoopla means exactly dick when the solution to him not being shot comes by way of "okay well there's like a window washer nearby and the washer accidentally shines light into the sniper's scope right at the second when the sniper is gonna kill the good guy, so the good guy lives and the bad guy misses."

I never read the book because Baldacci is a fucking awful writer, but including that in the movie was a terrible idea.

How about Tom Hanks? He seems like a safe Middle of the Road actor who'd also get a lotta airline love.

Greyhound will now offer on drive movies featuring Castaway,Flight,La Bamba,Passenger 57,Alive and Conair and with a premovie intro reminding people what happens when they decide to fly instead of bus it.

Wouldn’t be looking for “Sully” on there anytime soon either.

Probably because most of those are older but still reasonably popular films.

Denzel thought that he didint have enough exposure with his films yet and he wanted to rectify that and the simplest solution was to buy the airline (Delta) and show the movies on-air.

Denzel is pretty well liked by all demos, even showing a 59% approval rating from Caucasians 18-35.

Probably part of some contract he has. The auxiliary market is crazy. Some movies that flop just know people will rent the heck out of them post release.

He doesn't kiss in his movies. Fun fact

His movies are very pg13. White people also love him. Denzel Washington and will smith ( before the slapping incident) are loved by white people cause they are non threatening
