The Foundflix Ending Explained said they were fighting over the phone which they realized was /David's/ phone, and then raced to unlock it, presumably the alleged cheating texts would be there also, just happening to find the death vid.

There could’ve been texts from someone threatening him, or a video/voice recording of a confrontation.

I thought the same thing, the movie was pretty lousy overall I thought. Trying to be clever but got themselves trapped and had no way out, they were hoping no one would pay that much attention.
