Here is why I am asking this question. First off, let’s get something out of the way, I am a guy.
Here is my take - women are a lot more multidimensional than men when it comes to taking on diverse roles. Yes, there are exceptions: off the bat, the amazing Tom Hanks, comes to mind. But for every Tom Hanks, there is an Amy Adams, Hilary Swank, Jennifer Lawrence and a ton of other actresses that excel at that.
If Oscars only had a single award for an actor (male or female), men would rarely win.
So … ready for your fire. Thoughts?

The one who comes to mind from your title is Julianne Moore. Her performances is movies like Boogie Nights, Magnolia, The Big Lebowski, and even in Crazy Stupid Love show such an astonishing range of emotional openness, strength, intelligence, vulnerability, confidence, love, and rage. Her resumé is like an extended essay on what it is to be human.
