Because people suck. I also bet those who leave trash will use the "excuse," "they get paid to clean up," or "it's their job".

At the end of Deadpool, there was an extra scene where he told people to clean up their mess at the theater. It worked.

People are rude and impolite.

when you pay $12 for a medium popcorn it helps people justify their ignorance to leave their garbage in the theatre. Obviously not ok since it’s the person who works on the floor crew that has to clean it, but I think that’s the rationale.

I think people are primed by the fact that a cleaning crew shows up right at the end of every movie ever to think that, "oh shit, people are here to clean up after me. I guess I don't have to."

Much as I disagree (I was one to clean up those floors), it is generally some form of "that's what I pay for you to do." People feel very entitled to be taken care of, and apparently have no shame in being seen as extremely lazy and dirty.

I get popcorn on the floor (though I've seen half a bucket poured out, likely in protest to the quality of the popcorn - we've all gotten the "seeds and casings" bag before), maybe even a spilled drink. But some people go to the movie and make it seem like at every moment they were flailing wildly. Like a showing of Phantom Thread elicited a reaction more apt for a Kevin Hart movie.

A Kevin Hart movie, BTW, being the absolute worst cleanup the theater I worked at had ever seen. I dont remember the exact movie, but it was a special screening, and he had come to do a little intro, and bought the sold out theater all a popcorn and drink. It took a very long time to clean that theater.

those are the same type of people who park in the fire lane in front of Walmart so grandma don't have to walk all the way to a parking space after she gets done buying groceries for the extended family.

sure that healthy youngster could have pulled up- dropped granny off and then parked the car and then entered the store to shop with her- but noooooo- 5 or 6 cars in the fire lane all occupied by too cool to shop with granny guys....

so yeah- the folks leaving the messes behind are showing exactly how bourgeoisie they are and how proletariat the theater employees are. similar behavior is seen at many places where they act the role of a buffoon at the cost to the employees of whatever establishment they are in

I worked for movie theaters off and on for 12 years and yeah people are assholes. Imagine an entire row COVERED in popcorn. It’s happened. Puke? It’s happened. Baby diapers on the ground? I’ve picked it up. Garbage people will leave garbage.

I don't intentionally leave my trash, but sometimes I just forget. I've tucked my empty container out of the way so well that I don't even notice it, so it's not until I'm passing by the trash bins on my way out that I might recall that I had trash that got left behind.

But others who see my trash have no idea whether or not it's usual for me and don't know that I didn't leave it intentionally so to them I'll appear to be lazy or a jerk, rather than just occasionally forgetful.
