which actor you hated before but grew to love?

For me it was Ryan Gosling,I would exactly say I hated him but after watching the notebook and Drive I didn't like anything about him so over the years I watched some movies with him in it that he wasn't exactly the reason I watched them like Crazy stupid love because of Steve Carell or Blade Runner because Denis villeneuve made it and I realized he's a damn good actor and actually was looking forward for Grey man just because of him(and Chris Evans if I'm not lying)

Matthew McConaughey although to be fair he went about 10 years making shitty romantic comedies and the like. His turn in Killer Joe really caught me by surprise and ever since the guy’s done fantastic work.

I fell off season 2, I'm a huge mahershala Ali fan so I really enjoyed season 3 but nowhere near the level of season 1.

I couldn’t finish season 2 or 3 so I don’t know if they were wholly good, but not having a desire to finish them tells me that they weren’t very good, at least for my wife and I, along with most others I’ve ever talked to about the show. Season 2 was terrible, — like, I noticed I would rather be doing anything else — and there was some legit talent there. It’s sad because the concept was fantastic.

Colin Farrell, growing up he was just another ~Heart throb~ but he has a solid list of films under his belt. His most recent is one of my favorite films of this year. I’m excited to see what he does next.

Farrell is a fascinating one - he always had this raw potential on screen but something seemed to click with him post-Alexander where he pivoted to smaller projects that he found more interesting. In Bruges gave him the spark he needed.

Same with me. I saw the promise in him in “Tigerland” thought he held up well in “Minority Report” and “Phone Booth” but then he took these bad leading parts in movies and I was really tuned out.

But after “In Bruges” and that supporting part he did “Horrible Bosses” he really figured out his lane as a great character actor who can still lead movies but picks and chooses well.

He's great in Intermission too, another Irish movie that came out a few years before In Bruges. Also starring Colm Meaney and an up-and-coming Cillian Murphy. Good movie.

Leonardo DeCaprio

I am old enough to remember when he appeared on Growing Pains and I hated him from the start. Going into films, he continued to fail to impress me. What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Romeo + Juliet, Titanic, The Beach - all disastrous. Then, starting with Gangs of New York he became one of my all time favorite movie actors with roles in movies like The Departed, Blood Diamond, Inception, and Django Unchained.

I came here to say him. I remember being in elementary school when his career started taking off with titanic and some other things. All the girls were swooning over him and even then I remember thinking "he's just a pretty face that's gonna be forgotten". (Yes even in 4th grade I was a bit of a cynical asshole). The turning point for me was catch me if you can. Not the greatest film in the world but damn good IMO and made me actually think he could act. Then moving forward other amazing works like Django, inception, the departed, etc... Just made me realize he really is an amazing actor

Snap. I always thought of him as a pretty boy pin up. Then he stole The Departed from a stacked cast. Since then he has been in some of my favourite movies - Inception, Body of Lies, OUATIH etc.

Keanu Reeves. The Devil's Advocate was a turning point. You can appreciate his early work more when you consider that he excels as an special effect and not as a movie character.

His early stuff like "Babes in Toyland", "Prince of Pennsylvania" and "Dracula" were very cringey and probably would've destroyed most careers but he just kept plugging way until quality roles came along like "Point Break" and "Speed"

I love him, everything I ever learned about him he seems like genuinely a good guy. Devil's advocate is great, bill and Ted, of course the matrix, but not to be underrated IMO is his role in cyberpunk. Game is easily now one of my favorites of all time and he's just so God damn good in it. A "rockerboy" is not a role I would have thought him for but it's perfection, he plays a narcissistic ass who actually had a journey of growth so God damn well.

Channing Tatum, I really thought he was a IT pretty boy actor being rammed down our throats but then when the 21 and 22 Jump Street Movies came out, his performance really shifted my feelings on him as an actor and I really enjoy his work since.

Also Robert Pattinson who I had a weird love/hate thing at the start because he was Cedric Diggory, my favorite character from my fave Potter Book then he did Twilight and I was like WTF you’re better than this. But once he shifted back to “Good Time”, “Tenet”, and “The Batman”… I’m all in on him

Matt Damon. I know I’m probably in the minority here, but I thoroughly disliked Good Will Hunting (I should probably watch it again now that I’m older), and I don’t care for Kevin Smith, so I hated Matt Damon by association. But I really liked Talented Mr Ripley, and I enjoyed the Bourne films and Ocean’s Eleven, so he started to win me over and I genuinely began to like him.

I'd have to agree --- from "Risky Business" to "Days of Thunder", he just seemed like a cocky asshole who always found a way for things to break his way --- but after roles like "Born on the 4th of July", "Last Samurai", and "Magnolia", I finally realized this guy can really bring the gravitas to a character and get you totally invested in the story

I know it's old school but I never liked any of Robin Williams early career stuff --- from "Popeye" to "World According to Garp", it was all forgettable cringey stuff --- but when he started doing quality roles like "Dead Poets Society" and "Mrs. Doubtfire" and "Good Will Hunting", he really won me over as a superb actor who could bring the emotional feels in a scene

George Clooney. While he was good on Roseanne and ER, his start in films was awful. The Peacemaker was a dumb movie and he was arguably the stupidest Batman. He has said in interviews that he kind of Vanilla Iced his movie start and began to actively choose better roles.

Both started as the good looking boy but became really good actors with way more width as e.g. Ryan Reynolds (he is always himself which i enjoy) or some one type action heroes (which i enjoy).

Chris Barrie, we absolutely hated him as kids. Playing as Rimmer in red dwarf he was the worst companion and every comeuppance was relished, but coming back as adult you admire just how talented he was as playing an insufferable snob buffoon. Major Burns had also the same vibes, there’s a special talent playing a good villain that you love to hate.

I agree with your Gosling and before that it was Leo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, & Pretty much any Tigerbeat type actor who proved himself in a later roll. I think for DiCaprio it was the Aviator that got me. With Pitt it was Snatch. I really started to like Ryan Gosling in Crazy Stupid Love.

I could be wrong because I'm not familiar with his entire body of work, but Paul Rudd has never really evolved as an actor to me --- he was playing a safe and charming "guy next door" in Clueless and 30 years later he's playing those same kinds of roles --- I like him as a person but I don't really see any growth as an actor

After 2003, a year with Daredevil, Gigli, and Paycheck, Ben Affleck was the bottom of the barrel of actors for me.

By 2013 he had become a reliable actor for me who I enjoyed seeing in movies.
