I'd say it depends on what you want. US Office is more wholesome but a bit too long and sometimes too goofy. UK... they present the bleakness of everyday life very well, but it isn't as wholesome and flashy as US, I agree. I prefer UK, but have watched US version quite a few times as well.

This...
The US version absolutely has it's moments and I couldn't imagine any better casting to the Michael Scott role than Steve Carell, but the UK version is far better at delivering humor and emotion at a much darker level. Ricky Gervais is able to make me cringe at such a visceral level, and some of the scenes were just downright depressing.
US version = wholesome laughter.
UK version = dark laughter.

The Talented Mr Ripley
Better cast and more sumptuous locales than the original.

Good one! Way superior to purple noon!
To the list I’ll also add Ripley’s Game, which in my opinion is better than The American Friend, but maybe it’s not considered a “foreign” original

Infernal Affairs/The Departed
(Both are great though)

Both are good, but I prefer the original.

I was looking for this. The Departed is much better than Infernal Affairs, in my opinion. The HK original has too many characters and also is wishy-washy in how the mole inside the PD is, by default, an evil bad guy.
The William Monahan screenplay is much more efficient and does not pull punches. Matt Damon is a scumbag, full stop.
I feel like the Departed fixed each and every flaw I found with Infernal Affairs.

The Departed just mixed 3 Infernal Affair movies into one movie basically.

That’s why i didn’t like Vanilla Sky cause it makes character a redeemable person and Spanish version didn’t try to make him sympathetic. The Ring yeah it has a style of big budget movie but i liked original more cause the atmosphere was raw and has very silent and engaging feel in it.

I consider the American version of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo as good as the Swedish
AvatarJack t1_j296cz3 wrote
I consider it better. Mostly just because the production values are just so much higher and Fincher is the superior director. Rapace and Mara’s performances I’d say are equally good though.

Shameless! The US version is definitely superior.

Ghosts the TV show. US version is way better and funnier than the British version. British is fun with the neanderthal but Thor and Saj are way more inventive characters and Trevor being a younger 90s stock market bro is hilarious compared to his stuffy old british counterpart.

You're getting an upvote but I'm still undecided as both are effing amazing.

Let Me in only production value is higher but in terms of story they are similar. Only differences i guess is that in Swedish version girl is more creepy and the end rather has bleak future in my opinion but in American version it doesn’t have bleak future but rather optimistic in them
Bushgjl t1_j296e88 wrote
Really I thought it was the opposite, the American one seems to have a far bleaker and more overt ending. Whereas the original is ambiguous.
What I like more about the American one besides the increased production value is that the child actors are better and I prefer the score.
Medical-Pace-8099 t1_j296s9z wrote
Well i saw the bleak ending in swedish version cause in Swedish version Vampire was less sympathetic than in Let Me In that’s why. In Let Me In girl vampire did have sympathy moment but in original i noticed she didn’t feel any sadness or unhappiness when someone who helped her died. So it is a sign that she is more manipulative and evil in Swedish version.Well i liked actors on original more and a bleak future it left for viewers and also ambigious ending .
