No one is denying its a common theme for a plot twist but these were some of the first major releases that gained substantial attention for it. Hence my presumptions for what OP are connection the two movies together.
And to be precise, The Sixth Sense and The Others were released two years apart from each other 20 years ago.

That era of film was all about the twist.
