Just found out that The Sixth Sense and The Others resemble a lot

I've finished watching The Sixth Sense on Hulu, and it reminds me of another supernatural/horror movie I watched in my childhood, The Others.

The chief plots in both movies were that the protagonist(s) interacted with people with supernatural abilities in their lives and then encountered a series of bizarre events, but only eventually founding out that they are actually already dead and the real one being supernatural.!<

I personally prefers The Sixth Sense better, because it has many small details foreshadowing the real situation of the protagonist (Bruce Willis), like other works of Night Shymalan with a plot twist. While in The Others, the truth was abruptly revealed >!by the three service workers died of tuberculosis!<.

I haven’t seen this in years, but there are plenty of foreshadowing moments in The Others. <!The daughter’s drawing and the Fog when Kidman’s character tries to leave, including encountering her husband. The lack of consequences from exposure to sunlight.!> I am confident that there are more, however I cannot recall.

There are many, many other films that utilize this plot devide throughout cinema history. Although The Sixth Sense was one of the first that used it with such effectiveness, there have been several movies that came out before it even that worked in the same way. Here are some of those movies. Spolier alert.

THE SIXTH SENSE is such a good movie because it's about family dysfunction and being unable to communicate. So when mom and son finally are able to share, it's just this huge release of tension. Then the kicker makes it all the more sweet

Both movies begin with the protagonists having certain traumas in history, and gradually encountering supernatural events and person/people that subtly affect their lives, particularly in events like a séance.

Then there's the plot twist in the end that the protagonists are the real ones who are already dead but still wandering around in the world of livings.

Isn't that the plot to most be used?

I mean Vanilla Sky, Carnival of Souls, Atonement, Jacobs Ladder, The Lovely Bones etc.

I feel what you are saying, however, I don't feel other than appearance, the two are quite different.

No one is denying its a common theme for a plot twist but these were some of the first major releases that gained substantial attention for it. Hence my presumptions for what OP are connection the two movies together.

And to be precise, The Sixth Sense and The Others were released two years apart from each other 20 years ago.

I believe what OP is trying to insinuate is that they are ripped off one another.

Open your eyes/Vanilla Sky dealt with the same twist, instead of being dead though, he was in an eternal sleep where he can chose either life in paradise that is a hell, or try real life.

Before that decade there were others that would have the same plot.

That era of film was all about the twist.

Even the Usual suspects used the same kinda zinger.

Anywho, agree to disagree.
