Ruby Sparks is the only film I know of where something fantastically impossible happens and the characters have a realistic reaction

In every movie where the plot is some modern day fantasy, for example freaky friday, no one ever freaks out over the blatantly impossible happening. They are always like, " oh that's strange, ok moving on." In the film Ruby Sparks, in which a writer conquers up a fictional character as his girlfriend and she suddenly becomes real, the film takes a good amount of time showing him having a near nervous breakdown over something so impossible happening to him. They even realistically have him and his brother talking about how unprecedented in in all of history this is.They don't devote the too much time though so it's not like a writing exercise in realism for the whole film. It was such a fresh breath of air for me to finally see a film like this where the impossible was actually treated like the impossible.

I liked that movie but felt "Stranger than fiction" (2006) was even better and in a similar vein.

Honestly, I think this was Wills best movie. His humor is usually so over the top that i don't like too many of them, this, on the other hand, is so good.

What a weird post.

In both versions of Freaky Friday (all body swap movies for that matter) they freak out.

In Big he freaks out and everyone who knows freaks out.

The Santa Clause he screams into the mirror when his beard grows back.

What more do you want? If they don’t move past it at some point there is no movie.

I think it's valid. They 'freak out' but then for the remainder of the movies they just accept it and move on.

Imagine if you 'swapped bodies' or a child became an adult suddenly in real life. It would be earth shattering. Everything we think we know is effectively a lie. Some people would become catatonic trying to deal with it. People would be vomiting, crying. If the government found out they would go full ET on the person.

They move on and accept it in Ruby Sparks too.

You could definitely have a movie. It just wouldn't be a wacky fun family movie. You'd end up with something like 10 Cloverfield lane. A psychological horror.

Um, no not really. Granted it's been ages since I've seen that but they don't really freak out because it's impossible, there teen minds just melt becuase they have a super gorgeous women to play with.
