I agree a little, but keep in mind the only ones of note in the franchise are just S1 and 2. Obviously I feel like this movie is better than S4 and PiB, and definitely better than S3. So being on the same level as the original Shrek and it’s sequel is an achievement in and of itself.

Yes, but 1 & 2 are legit great, not just really good. Sure PiB 2 might get there but lets sit on it for a while and see with time if PiB 2 equals them.

I can’t stand Shrek 2 but I enjoyed Puss in Boots more than anything in this franchise since the first Shrek.

Shrek 2 is pretty beloved and is seen as the best in the series.

My only push back of your opinion is recency bias. Many times in the moment the new thing seems fresh in our mind it gives use a false sense.
I'm in no way calling Puss in Boots 2 bad, it was very good. But lets give it a year or two and give a little perspective on it before calling it the best in the franchise. It's possible it is but let time tell.
