In your opinion, when did Colm say anything that was interesting not associated with the plot that you would want to have a long conversation about? That was the whole point that Colm will talk about things that don't matter. When Colm was drunk and talking about nice vs memorable, that was the time he said something that made people think and create an interesting discussion.

The cop at least might be talking about his job or raising his son (though we know how that ended).

Edit: I mixed the two up.

The subtext of their relationship reflects the Irish civil war that’s happening on the mainland: “I just don’t like you no more”, “but you liked me yesterday”.

It’s a story about how people can turn against each other seemingly out of nowhere and how we use destructive means to get back at each other like Colm cutting his fingers and then Padaric burning Colm’s house.

But for Colm, his reason why he doesn’t want to be friends with Padriac is so he can spend more time making songs. He feels like he has wasted his potential by being friends with Padaric. Is it a perfect excuse? That’s up to you.

He explained how he wanted to write music and do something that would get him remembered versus getting drunk everyday at 2pm. I think he just happened to be talking to the cop.

Yes but i think its implied (although never shown since they arent friends within the first 5 minutes of the movie) that they would get pretty drunk, like as drunk as collin ferrel was when he started talking to colm in the pub when he was with the cop
