If it's incredible, why should I have to lower my expectations? That makes no sense.

Maybe they mean “if you” instead of “but”. But I guess that’s true for every movie. If your expectations are being water boarded, The Room is a pretty incredible experience in comparison.

Maybe it’s a nice way of saying “this movie is great, if you like shitty movies!”

What was the experiment? To see if people would actually stay in their seats for the entirety of this dumpster fire?

Yeah same, I quit on this after the first 20 mins. The grainy VHS style gimmick was neat for a while, but not being able to make anything out on the screen gets annoying very quick. For the budget I'd say it was a decent shot at trying something new but didn't translate into a memorable experience for me.

This isn’t saying much though is it, we’re not even a month in😂

"Canadian low-budget horror film Skinamarink is credible". Is that low enough?

“Skinamarink is a low-budget film.” Now we’re getting somewhere!

The funny part about the word incredible is that it doesn't denote quality, so if we go even lower, it can be:

"Canadian low-budget horror film Skinamarink is incredible. " as in "I can not believe someone made something so bad."

I have heard it's batshit but it's up to the viewer whether that's a good thing or a bad thing. It's supposed to be coming to Shudder in the next few months so I will catch it then.

I have had friends emphatically recommend this movie to me but they also told me like everyone else in the theater walked out😂

I know when I saw the VVitch I could hear general discontentment from the audience. I loved the movie but I don't really know many people I would recommend it to. Even the other big horror fan was turned off because of the marketing of it being the scariest movie ever that A 24 will do. I fear Skinamarink is the same.

OfferOk8555 t1_j6dgqj1 wrote

Eh people that get wrapped up on that gate keeping aspect of horror is whatever. The VVitch fucking slaps even if it isn’t the scariest thing to ever exist.

I tend to throw a pretty wide net about what I see as horror. I will pretty much include anything that is trying to scare or disturb me but isn't just misery porn.

I in no way had any idea it was going to be two hours of hallway shots and whispering, my friend and I definitely went in expecting a traditional film and hated this. It's not that experimental film isn't great, but it's not our cup of tea and didn't expect it from a wideish release.

That said I was genuinely terrified for a large chunk of it, I left the theater feeling so tense that I was shaking. Unfortunately dark hallway shots and whispering really mess me up lol

So I guess it was the most boring experience I ever had while being genuinely scared.

It's an hour and a half of the camera just pointing at the floor, ceiling, or wall for a few minutes at a time. The whole budget went to legos and glue

You also need to bring ear plugs with you because the sound randomly gets way too loud and it'll blow your ear drums out

charleyismyhero t1_j697kbs wrote

I haven't seen it, but if this is the concept, they should just make it its own streaming channel that people can have on in the background. Like the horror version of a Yule Log. Horror fans would dig it.

Coming from someone who liked the it and saw it twice your analogy is pretty on point

Despite being as minimal as it is, the movie won't work if you don't give it your full attention.

General_PoopyPants t1_j6akgyd wrote

I watched it in theaters. My attention was solely on the screen

My bad, responded to the wrong comment. Meant to respond to the comment saying it should be watched in the background.

no, it isn’t. It’s just not. Stop telling people it is. Because it isn’t.
