Hope you guys already know this wonderful movie. It's from 1999 so probably yes. Nowadays I'm watching dozens of movies and honestly this one brought me back to the time when Hollywood described incredibly well the American dream. Acting, music, soundtrack, photography are on point and not plot holes. As usual Netflix gives a short and not detailed description of the story so luckily I followed my inspiration...

Fantastic film. The dad is so perfect in that role and plays disgruntled/ disappointed fathers in other movies

Chris Cooper, of course. One of those actors who seems genetically designed to play disgruntled, disappointed or just plain shitty dads. In the last category we have "American Beauty" and "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood."

Really good to see Gyllenhaal kept to doing strong roles in films and didn't get attached to too many popcorn films or teen comedies.

Such a damn good movie. I remember STARZ played the hell out of this in late 2000.

My honors chemistry teacher would play this for us atleast once a month when he wasn't feeling it.

None of us complained.

This is honestly one of my favorite movies. It's depiction of the time period, coal mining life and community, and to rise above your surroundings are all excellently done.

This is by far the movie I’ve seen the most when I was at school.

Yep, I think we watched this in school at least three separate times

I love this film, the story and relationship between Cooper and Gyllenhaal is captivating. I always thought that his brother was played by Brenden Fraser but it's not.

One of my guilty pleasure movies for sure. I watch this movie once a year probably. It’s got some real heart in there. The teachers journey. Chris Cooper standing up for the Jakes friend and beating up on the drunk step father gives me goosebumps just thinking about the scene. Love this movie. Damn it. Now I have to watch it again.

It’s so great and the books are also amazing as a form of time travel to a bygone time.

Also the music is stunning.

Kind of lose interest in it after seeing Homer Hickam's social media activities more recently. Dude pulled the ladder up after him big time

Obligatory: “October Sky” is an anagram of “Rocket Boys”!

It's such a inspiring movie too! Whenever I see it, I instantly get motivated to tackle on projects that seem "impossible." A great movie all around!

I just showed this movie to a youth group of 12-14 year olds that I work with. None of them had seen it before and they all loved it!

I watched this movie in every science class from middle school all the way through highschool.

Didn't even matter if it was biology or anatomy.

It's a very pedestrian and by the numbers movie.

I really want to watch this movie considering it’s what got Jake Gyllenhaal discovered.
