I absolutely love fucked up movies, but I think I overdid it today; after watching Funny Games, The House That Jack Built, and Speak No Evil, I feel super gross and am questioning my own humanity lol. Looking for some movies that are still kinda dark, but have comedic undertones and don’t have endings that are completely fucked up.

Give The Death of Stalin a shot. It's funny as shit while simultaneously conveying the terror and mistrust which surrounded Stalin, his closest advisors, and the Soviet Union in general.

War of the Roses.

First half feels like any ol' meetcute movie romance of the era, with Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner. But it's not - it's a Danny Devito movie, and the black comedy emerges as the marriage starts breaking down and getting ugly. One of my favorite movies, because it's just so well written and Douglas and Turner subvert the kinds of roles they're both famous for brilliantly.

Sick of Myself (2022) from Norway is batshit insane. The pitchest black of black comedies. It’s about a narcissist woman who willingly consumes a banned pharmaceutical drug with a horrible side effect so that she can earn sympathy and attention from her friends.

Though I regret bringing it up if you’re looking for an ending that isn’t fucked up. It’s fucked up, but I’m also cringe smiling the whole way through. 😬
