For the purposes of this discussion, ignore films that you liked nostalgically, maybe liked as a child then came back to later and disliked, that's pretty standard, think more of films that didn't have that distance or nostalgia to their benefit to begin with.

and really think of films that have a harsh contrast between that initial reaction and your current or later thoughts. not so much "this isn't a masterpiece but it's still good!" more looking for films that transitioned from outright good to outright bad in your perspective. a real gap.

For me it's Disney's "Raya and the Last Dragon".

On first viewing I felt it was a pretty good film, 7/10 at least, maybe a low 8.

Good characters, action and visuals were fantastic, score was good, It was fun. bit derivative, and definitely felt like ATLA-lite. but it was fun,

Thinking about it even the next day though, the problems started to become more obvious in hindsight, and with greater and greater distance? nah... this movie's freaking terrible. absolute epitome of glazing/polishing a turd, action and visuals are still good, voice actors do good work, side-characters are still fun. but it's meat being packed onto a skeleton that's dissolving beneath it. the core theming and story are almost embarrassingly badly put together.

In summation the core theme is a message about trust, and how we should give people the benefit of the doubt and trust them, counterpointed by a hardened, untrusting protagonist who needs to learn to trust people... Okay. fine so far... but then it gets into the details and it becomes BAFFLING.

Putting a long-ass rant in the comments if you're curious.

TL:DR, The movie set-up essentially gaslights the protagonist into trusting someone that they have absolutely every reason not to trust

So what are your choices?
