Two-Hander refers to a movie that centers around two main characters rather than a lead and a support. One of my favorite parts of Banshees of Inisherin was not only the chemistry (or lack there of) between Farrell and Gleeson, but how Banshees was almost a reversal of their respective characters in In Bruges. In Bruges, Farrell was the bleak existentialist while Gleeson seemed to take a more epicurean approach to life (at least on the surface). Banshees swapped those two outlooks for Farrell and Gleeson and both movies were extremely effective.

This got me thinking about my all time favorite Two-Hander movies and performances. I think my vote would have to be Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford in All the President’s Men. Honorable mentions/ other nominees:

  • Tom Cruise/ Paul Newman in Color of Money

  • Andre Gregory and Shawn Wallace in My Dinner With Andre

  • Paul Newman and Robert Redford in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

  • Matt Damon and Leo DiCaprio in the Departed

  • Ethan Hawke and Julie Delphi in Before Trilogy

  • Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man

  • Brad Pitt and Leo DiCaprio in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Any others? Bonus question: If you could swap any of the above would you?
