unfortunately, the entire area in the south has a nonexisting housing market. If you really want a house I suggest getting a realtor up here to get it for you before you arrive. Rentals have an availability of less than 1% unless you are already here and can go in person, there is no chance for you to get a rental in the southern part of NH ahead of time. On top of that the price range you mentioned will most likely only get you a one bedroom. Can your employer not help you to secure housing?
Good luck!

Ignore the assholes.
You said your housing goals are $1500 - 2000 for a 2 bedroom house which is gonna be hard to find if not impossible.
Check out Zillow and just zoom around to see what I mean. NH is suffering from a huge housing crisis.

SL, UT is one of the funnier looking shortened city names.
You’ll be in the Manchester city limits for your budget most likely. Might get lucky and find something outside of the city, but waitlists are long.

The housing market is crazy here. Most 2 bedroom apartments around Merrimack will be close to $2000 a month, houses will be more.

I did the UT to NH thing in 1999 (by way of AZ). The further out you go, the cheaper it is. We started with a 3 bedroom rental in Hillsboro for 750. Won’t find that today.
But freedom wise, it’s the opposite of UT. No religious dictatorship and the state (mostly) leaves you alone as long as you pay your taxes. Property taxes are nuts compared to UT but no state or sales evens it out.

North Conway right at the base of Mount Washington in a valley. Has a lot more charm and less crime then southern NH. Just don't go any further North than Mount Washington

I lived in Merrimack for years. Went to school there. I'm 36 now. My mom still lives there and she's only an hour from me. Great place to live. Lots of new stores being built. Relatively quiet. Bedford is a great place to go for shopping (Manchester is becoming a little unsafe in certain areas). Nashua is a great town, South of merrimack. Be sure to visit North Conway and the white mountains!

I'm from Merrimack! Class of '04. Loved growing up there. Now that I've traveled, encountered other states, and my own kids are entering highschool elsewhere in NH, I'm realizing how fucking lucky I was and the education I got was above standard. Don't know if it's still like that but I hope it is. I drive through there occasionally and I want to cry. Urban sprawl has made it unrecognizable.
Suddenapollo01 t1_j9evkhg wrote
I was class of '04 as well! You're right about the urban sprawl. A lot more condos and apartments squeezing in. I mean even Bedford lately just seems so damn busy. More stores too which is nice but, it's certainly generated more traffic than ever before.

Haha I probably know who you are! Can you believe Todd Wiley, the philosophy teacher, solicited sex from one of his female students in 2015. Crazy shit. I took 2 English classes and philosophy 1&2 with him.

Yep! I didn't have him but I saw him plenty. I still have the senior video which actually has the famous food fight on it lol. I think it was pasta day that day. 😂

up the budget to 2500 and you will be able to find something nice. try padmapper (web site) to view rentals. hope you dont have pets, gross 3x the monthly rent and have very good credit.
if your company is making you move, they usually help with relo costs. they also have a long history of massive layoffs when the economy dips.

I don't want to discourage you but that's the price for a one bedroom apartment up here. I used to pay 1.300$ for a studio apartment in downtown Manchester. Everything is so expensive here, but I would definitely check Zillow

There are new apartments at Merrimack Premium Outlets and in the southern part of town opposite Harris Pond. There are new apartments behind the 360 Mall near exit 11 - I'm not sure if they are renting yet. I do not know what these are renting, or will be renting for, but you could give them a try.
Housing is very tight as Merrimack is a very convenient location.
On things to do: Merrimack is convenient to Boston, Metrowest, Hampton (for beaches), Southern Maine seacoast, and mountains. If you provide a list of things that you like to do, then people can reply specifically. It's not the best of places for singles - the Boston area is a lot better for that.

NH is currently one of the most unaffordable states to live in. A 2 bedroom apartment might be more “affordable” (jokes because even that’s outrageous now). But houses are rented for 3000+ and people fight tooth and nail for rentals.
