Remember that guy from London who posted here a few months ago saying he was coming to NH for a vacation? He was asking if he should stay in Portsmouth or Manchester. The top comment mentioned you go to Portsmouth to have fun and you go to Manchester to die.

At least it wasn't a shooting this time?

Why would that be any worse?

It depends on the blade and the bullet, but generally speaking, I’d rather get stabbed if I had to choose one or the other. Survival odds are better on average.

As someone who's been stabbed, getting stabbed doesn't hurt very and heals quickly.

Manchester is so bizarre.

I go back and forth on whether I want to buy a home that’s very close to “things” in a few years. I’d totally buy in the North End (like, north of the millyard and downtown in the Stark Park/maybe Livingston Park area) if I wanted to go in that direction.

But like a half mile away becomes not just undesirable, but “no fucking way”.

I lived in the Manchester Place Apts for a year and it really wasn’t too bad at all (the corporate aspect helps lol but the immediate area is decent) Then spent a year near Malvern Street and there was a meth raid the week I moved in..

I’ve been in Manchester place since 2020, it’s been great. Just got an offer accepted nearby in goffstown and couldn’t be more excited- love downtown Manchester but it will be nice to be way from all the ish

You won't feel that way once you get a load of the town's Facebook page.

Ferahgost t1_j8b7910 wrote

I mean or I can just avoid both Facebook and the towns Facebook pages. There’s is no such thing as a town Facebook page that has ever made a town look good

I lived in Manchester after college for one year, lived in the “North End” which we were told was the “‘nice part”, ten months in, a woman was shot and killed a street over while walking her dog. It’s never been solved. Moved soon after and don’t miss that gross city.

Happened in Concord too, although they (allegedly) caught the bastard. Random violence like that can happen anywhere, unfortunately. Even sleepy Mt Vernon. It’s just more likely in some places. You’re already rolling the dice heavily by choosing to live in the US. This is a country that loves violence.

Manchester has really become a dump. When I was a kid I never felt like it was as dangerous as it is today. Maybe I'm just getting old.

Peppers_People t1_j8drhpd wrote

No, it really is getting worse. It wasn’t even this bad 10 years ago.

Some good news. They identified the suspect:

>Desmel Cooper, 40, of Manchester, is wanted on charges of first-degree assault and possession of a deadly weapon as a convicted felon, according to Manchester police.

I don’t understand 1st degree assault. Shouldn’t it be attempted murder?

3

rubicon11 t1_j8ef5c2 wrote

They know they can charge him with first degree assault with what they know now. They can use the evidence and witness testimony they find as part of the investigation to upgrade the case to attempted murder

Yeah, the murder still gets reported. The insane opioid abuse that has caused DEA agents in even Arizona to refer to it as “Manchvegas”, that’s so common it’s completely ignored now.

Common_Resolution_36 t1_j8drmst wrote

Even in Arizona??? Oh no! Not that! You are a dork.

1

Hereforthemadness1 t1_j8e2k02 wrote

Wooshed right over your head didn’t it flatlander? The point is that the opioid epidemic is so bad in our little city, that the cutsy nickname we’ve used for that city for decades is now common usage in DEA offices that have never even heard of Manchester NH before now.
