Propane Buyers Groups Questions

I recently learned that propane buyers groups exist and I wanted to hear about experiences with them in NH. Fees to join seem to vary widely, and it's unclear (in most cases) what the historical savings are as compared to not joining. So, I'd love to learn more, if anyone has any experience with them.

Our town energy alliance is a $35 annual fee and they're going for $2.66/gallon of propane for the year starting 9/1.

There may be a fee depending on your current supplier. Mine was $200 annually. My tank is owned by a company not involved but they were willing to sell it to the new provider.

Keene area here. Our old supplier Rymes turned into a really shitty company with a really shitty new owner so we joined the local group and we are paying $2.60/gallon and surprisingly it didn't cost anything to have the old tank removed (dug up) or the new one added.

what is the local group? we're in Walpole and I recently got delivery from Rymes, was $4/gal. It's not a primary source for us but I'd much rather get signed up for a cheaper price!

New ownership (Superior) gutted the local offices, long time staff bailed when longtime management was sent packing. Not a pretty situation.

When considering them you definitely want to understand re: the removal of your existing tanks (including possible excavation) who will pay for removal and installation. I know that in my neck of the woods a bunch of folks got in on one (I don't recall the company) and there were no out of pocket cost to the customers for tank swaps/removal of inground tanks - but that in some cases there may be expense to customer for this.

Thank you for that insight. I do have a buried 500 gallon in-ground tank, so a tank dig-up/replace would be quite an event.

Our town costs me like...30 bucks a year, and locks in my rate under $3. I rent my tank from eastern and they give me the our town rate whenever they deliver.

They'll sometimes negotiate a tank swap if needed
