NH in the fall is the burning man of the east

Meanwhile most of Maine, Vermont and Eastern Massachusetts is empty. All of which have fall foliage.

I go into the woods to get away from people. Not wait in line for people to post on social media.

This is why we go to the NEK of VT now. Much quieter. Far drive from Boston but worth it to avoid the masses.

This is certainly an inconvenience but as a resident of northern NH, we really do depend on these tourists. We have no industry. We rely on tourism in the summer, fall AND winter. We live in one of the most beautiful places in the country. It’s unrealistic to think we don’t have to share it with others. At least most of the businesses that benefit (outside the ski areas) are small family run.

Put a $10 toll on either side of the Notch and on either side of the Kanc aimed at those out of state plates, please.

There are so many better easily-hiked-to views that don’t feature an interstate highway! I don’t get the appeal of Artist’s Bluff.

Shhhh! No Artist bluff is only easy hike to view ratio in state. Should all go there and not look anywhere else. 😉.

Ya artists bluff is great don’t go looking anywhere you’ll get lost! If you see a gas station called YAYAs in twin, turn around you went too far away from all the art and leaves!

Eww..that’s were everyone who doesn’t want to put in too much effort goes so they can get their instagram likes..become one with nature, become famous in IG, it’s all the same

I would honestly rather people take the lower effort option if it’s the most appropriate one for their experience, fitness level, or family unit. Not that there’s not a middle ground, but I know a lot of us are internally shrieking reading the “Flatlander family drags 4 year old in crocs up Mt. Washington in hailstorm with 80 mph gusts” type callouts.

I “downgraded” to Artist’s Bluff (+ Bald Mountain, which was stunning) for the first time this summer as a solstice sunrise hike because I had some health issues and can definitely see the appeal.

Damn so all I have to do is go up there and take a picture and I’ll be famous on IG? Wow count me in! Keep on hating bud

Irishbangers14 t1_irnvr2e wrote

I’m not trying to hate, I’ve just seen a lot of artists bluff photos, when their are so many better views and hikes around the area, I can’t help but think people choose the easy route for that easy fall photo to put on social media and get likes for, it’s weird, it’s cringy, and honestly it’s an overused view. Not worth a like an upvote or a retweet IMO not being a hater just being open to how I perceive this photo and the ensuing photos of the bluff. Haters gon’ hate

Sounds good man. Me and my 4 year old had a blast hiking it this Saturday morning. Not too many other spots with a view like that where a 4 year old can climb up all by himself. Unless I haven’t heard about them. 🤷‍♂️ There’s always that one person hating and that is you my friend. .. Beautiful Saturday 👍🏻

Nothing makes me feel like I'm in nature more than hundreds of people and thousands of cars clogging up the highway

Jesus. So much has changed. Best years of my life were living in the mountains of NH. Unfortunately that place, as I know it is gone or going away.. so sad,

Its also Columbus Day weekend. Every time I've gone up to the Bluff in recent years I've been alone to look at the foliage at the top.

I was there yesterday and it was a mess. We tried to go up the kanc for an hour, but got bored and turned around. It was then another hour back.

We made the mistake of visiting Acadia this weekend. What a nightmare for crowds. Never seen it like this before. Surely, the two cruise ships in the harbor didn't help, but the vehicle traffic was beyond absurd.
