Where to buy new, solid wood furniture?

I'm looking to buy or commission solid, hardwood furniture. Can anyone recommend a woodworker/cabinetmaker who takes commissions for high-quality, freestanding furniture? Or a store that sells new, solid hardwood furniture?

I don't want to buy vintage or antique, so most people I speak to suggest finding a local cabinetmaker to commission work with... But I'm struggling to find one whose work looks to be of good quality. Hoping to get some specific recommendations. I'd also be happy to buy from a store, but I haven't found any that sell anything other than MDF and maybe a bit of pine.

Pompanoosuc Mills. Winchendon Furniture in Keene or Winchendon MA. LaChance Furniture in Gardner MA. All have at least a 6 month lead time.

If the NH inmates are as good as some of the work I saw at the Leavenworth Disciplinary Barracks, you would get what you're looking for.

but...I'm subscribing to this thread as I'll probably be looking for some stuff to be made within five years.

It is very hit or miss (in my experience) if you are having something custom made. I had to come up with all the drawings and measurements of everything I needed. And the fit and finish wasn't what I would put in a high end home. If that is what you are after.

My parents bought a bunch of things there back in the day. Prices were good, but I think they had a couple things that didn't work out so great. If I recall my dad bought a gun cabinet that was the wrong height. He had to return it and have them remake it.

I've used Aubin Woodworking in Bow to make desks and tables. They are easy to work with and make high quality pieces

I'd suggest Winchendon Furniture I've bought a few different things from them and they're great. Sometimes it can take a while to get your items if they're custom made because I believe their furniture is made by the Amish in Pennsylvania. If you want quality, this is definitely the place. They have a HUGE showroom where you can purchase items and a floor of all marked down items.

There is a place in Chester, NH called ‘bittersweet blessings’ and they sell homemade wood furniture. I was told they get furniture from a maker and don’t have set stock. (They get what they get). I’m not sure how legit it is, but I’ve bought a couple cabinets that are sturdy and good quality. Might be worth looking into.

I've got furniture from them. It's a bit pricey but it's extremely nice hardwood stuff that I'll have forever. (I think I spent around $1800 for a table and a bench) and it took around 10 weeks to make.

Can't recommend them enough. Have a couple family and friends who've used them too.

The owner of Almolu's bakery in Northwood does awesome work. Not sure if he has any time for it anymore with the bakery going strong. He made us a bookcase to match another one that we bought from a woodworking place in Raymond years ago. He is also is an excellent baker. Even if you don't inquire about woodworking you need to try the bagels!

Barns of Bradford has stuff like that. They sell solid factory stuff, but they also have some hand made pieces

Solid hardwood furniture is great if it’s made properly with good joinery such as dovetailed drawers and mortise and tenon cabinetry. If not it’s no better than IKEA. Best to find someone who does custom cabinet work..

I hate myself for saying it...but manzel furniture in Peabody is really nice. Some of their stuff is eclectic and funky... but all very good quality, fairly priced, and they customize. Staff couldn't be nicer either

Always happy when buying from them.
