Dropped off by who?

Where is this person from?

Going out on a limb here, but likely someone she asked to drop her off at the trailhead so she could go for the hike.

Yes, but what I was getting at: If you've lived here for any period of time, you should kinda know not to go hiking unprepared. Which extends to mentioning this to friends if they want to go hiking as well in your area.

So if someone dropped her off for a long hike they're equally responsible for her fate, if they're from the area.

Yeah that’s different from dropping someone off for a hike. She doesn’t need a wall tent and sled team to go on a hike in the white mountains. Plenty of people solo hike up there, very few of them have any issues.

Yeah, and the ones that don't are typically familiar and know to check the weather etc.

Unlike her.

And the last dude.

And the one before them.

Solo hiking is fine with a map, GPS and knowledge of the trails.

Wandering into the woods on your own in an unfamiliar place...welll...
