Be prepared…

It snows more in NH.

Far more vehicles on the road with vanity plates. Some are impossible to decode.

Very strict when it comes to vehicle inspections. Insanely prohibitive when it comes to window tint.

Car or truck, all/4 wheel drive is a necessity if you are a commuter or enjoy the outdoors…and not just in winter.

Humidity is brutal for, on average, 17 days per year.

Weather prediction is wrong more than it is right.

Open carry and concealed are commonplace, more apparent the farther out in the boonies you go.

Learn to hate Massholes; the sooner you do, the better you’ll feel.

Don’t compare anything in NH to anything in FL.

Not a diverse state. Everyone has an opinion for why that is and how to change it, but here we are.

You definitely don’t need a battery powered jacket, lol.

You do need decent tall boots (I like Bogs or Perfect Storm) and I’m also a huge fan of wool socks (darn tough or smartwool). Montbell makes some amazing down fill winter jackets and the Patagonia Das parka is a solid synthetic.

Blaze orange hat/headband/bandanna if you’re gonna walk in the woods in the fall.

Watch out for ticks in the woods/tall grass.

Mentally prepare yourself for black fly season to begin in the spring.

Get a nice extendable snow scraper to keep your car roof clear.

We don’t “all carry” here to be “safe and free”. That’s ridiculous (and I say that as a person living in a home w/multiple guns). Some of us own guns bc we like to shoot. Some of us own guns bc we like to hunt. Not everyone here is a rabid gun owner who thinks that you need to constantly carry a weapon to be safe.

The only thing NH needs for you to keep it great is to not be a Free Stater. 🙂

Seasonal depression hits people used to a lot of sun pretty hard, look up ways to keep your vitamin D up.

Cold will be an adjustment in the winter. Being cold once or twice is different than it always being cold for months.

In the winter it gets light at like 7 and dark at like 5.

Not trying to scare you away, I just like to provide the negatives because people don't need to be armed for the positives lol

Good luck with that.

People don't agree about what makes NH great. And just because NH is great, doesn't mean it can't be even better. I think most people would agree with that.

Even the people that are most vocal about not changing things usually just mean "don't change the things they like", and they are quite happy for it to change to be even more of what they like.

Oh boy are you going to have fun (jk). I moved to NH 4.5 years ago from VA.

Seasonal depression.

It freaking sucks but it affects a lot of NH folks. We recently got a dog and going on daily walks with her has really helped with that.

Also, NH is a purple state if that's what you're talking about when referring to "Florida craziness". THATS what makes NH great. Despite what New Hampshire subreddit may seem like, people are much more tolerant of each other despite political differences in real life here. I grew up in a very red district in VA and even though I'm conservative, I love that NH is much more welcoming in that sense. Also, if you're politically left leaning and want to be near people with similar views, I'd recommend staying near the cities because a lot of conservatives live out in the country or in small towns.

Also, be prepared for lots of snow. Driving sucks in the snow. And be prepared for loss of electricity. Get a generator. We have several black outs every year, mostly due to snow and ice. It gets cold if you don't have a generator.

Summers are lovely here! Lakes region is awesome to visit in the summer time! And the ice castles are dreamy in the winter time. The ocean is cooooold but I've heard it's tolerable come August.

Overall, NH is a lovely state! Lots of awesome things to do :)

New Hampshires pretty cool. If you’re relocating blind, avoid the Manchester/Nashua area. Seacoast is nice. If you’re a city type, you’d love Dover, or Plymouth. If you want to find a more rural place to live, go to the middle. You’ll be within an hour of anything you need.

If I was going to move across the country to another state, I would want to move to a place that somehow embodies that state, not a trashy border town.

I grew up in Raymond, it was ok. We went to Manchester for stuff sometimes. I just see it as kind of a hole. Nashua is like Manchester, but crappier.

I've lived in Nashua for a long time. There are other areas that are "nicer" but to be clear, there are no neighborhoods where I won't walk/bike/run through. It is nice to be close to stores and restaurants. I'd love to live in the middle of nowhere...but also really close to everything.

Biggest downside is you really won't find a property where you can setup a shooting range in the backyard. If you want that sort of thing, you'll need to move to a surrounding town.

My stepmom is from Florida and she has 0 regrets about living in NH. I asked her last weekend while we were in Florida for a funeral if she would ever want to get a second home in Florida and do the Snowbird thing, and she said never...

On the topic of what you should know... This is going to be long:

Drive slow in snow and if you feel yourself sliding pump the brakes like 5 times or so real fast and let your car slow down and regain traction. Do not slam on the brakes, make sudden turns, or accelerate through bad traction. This is something you will learn over time, much like how to regain traction while hydroplaning which I would imagine you've done before in Florida (obviously the pumping the brakes is a lot different but the "don't panic" mentality is the same)...

Get a heavy winter coat and a few hoodies and good insulated gloves. It's obviously a lot colder than Florida and you will hate yourself if you have to shovel snow with no nice gloves.

Keep a Ice Scraper/ snow brush in your car (I do year round as one time I took it out of the trunk and the snow came earlier than I had expected and I didn't have it that day which was annoying). There eventually will be a day where you feel like the character from the movie fargo scraping the ice off your windshield.

A shovel for your driveway / porch / deck

Waterproof boots, as the snow is often wet and slushy (it is currently super wet where I am)

Liquor is only sold at NH state liquor stores

Once winter ends the roads are typically f'd up from frost heaves, potholes, etc. Expect to have to take a detour every now and then come spring/summer as the road construction is basically an expectation on a yearly basis.

Also as you can tell already, NH, like Florida, is not free from dumb people... Most of us just ignore them.

Just adopt the New Hampshire way and we will be good. We are pretty libertarian here. What I mean is we are a live and let live people. We keep to ourselves. Unless they are democrats or lefty maoist from east coast Bostonian bag of dick heads infecting our state.

Real granite staters are generally low key polite people who live and let live if it’s none of our business. Keep the state clean, don’t vote for anything coming in from Marxachusettes and get yourself a gun. We all carry here and this is why we are so safe and free. We don’t bother anybody and if it’s not your business then leave it.

People from Massachusetts are known as massholes but not all Massachusetts people are massholes. You still find old stock new Englanders who still adhere to the way New England should be: respectful, independent, self reliant, friendly, keep to yourself…but we got the liberal mind virus in Boston and down in CT and RI.

Basically upper New England and lower New England.

If you find a commie and lots in this Reddit forum (easy to pick out) make sure you ask them to leave and help them to move out. Nobody wants them here. Make sure you don’t vote for anything government. All things government is bad. Trust in people. Oh and buy yourself a gun. It’s a legal requirement for NH citizenship.

Drive more careful in snow. Help somebody on the side of the road because it’s the right thing to do. Help the old lady or man cross the road. We still have good values here. Wave to cars that give you wide birth. Wave to the guy who let you in. We do the right thing here in NH and this is why we are the best state. Don’t fuck up our state up. We won’t be happy. Be a good person. Do good things for people because it’s the right thing to do. Pick up trash on your street. I don’t give a fuck if it’s yours or not. Say good morning and thank you at the check out. Keep the state clean and beautiful and you’ll be welcomed around the campfire. If you don’t, we’ll expect to be looney and bored because you’ll be alienated and talked about. Parents will tell there kids “don’t be like that man” and encouraged to throw rocks at you.

New Hampshire is a really easy place to live as long as you live the way New Hampshire expects you to live

I can't believe you think "flatlander" is a new term. Like you invented it when you moved down from Canada. You scissorbeaks are all the same. Keep on posing, poser.

Lmfao. That’s not what I said, stalker. God your reading comprehension sucks. And yes, from the centuries of my family living here, the centuries of friends and extended families living here…the term was never used

Nice try transplant. I find it sadly funny you claim you lived a life but clearly never left your moms basement. As for myself I’ve lived in different countries, speak different languages. Complete joke this one. Keep pounding those keys child. Stay mad.

Check my comment history, son. My whole issue was you acting like you somehow represent everyone in the state with your asinine diatribe, yet you aren't even from here. I've seen it my whole life, know your role and quiet down.

I don’t care enough to check. That’s how disinterested I am in anything you say. Again. An opinion was made. Stay mad, and don’t care, stalker

Keep pounding away at the keyboard but clean off the cum or mom will be mad again.

Not even from here 🤣🤣🤣 sure thing Manchester 👍🏻👍🏻

Know my role, I’m sure you’re told that before you’re bent over. Stalker and incel vibes now..projection is strong with this retard

Nah I get laid, never had to pay a stripper for it either. You are a bitter bastard, I'll give you that, it's a good start for in case you have to survive a real winter, you'll need that.

Again, says more about you Manchester 👍🏻 Mentioning strippers, worried about winter. Yup. Clearly we see what’s on your mind, stalker.

I’m not bitter at all. Just the truth.

“I get laid”….watching porn in his mom’s basement. Apparently an almost 40 year old priority is “getting laid”…what an incel. You talk so much about yourself

Sorry your PP was too small for that stripper but don't sweat it big guy, the right girl won't care. I'm pretty bored and I got work to do so I'd like to call a truce. Sorry I stepped up to the one and only true native who has been here for centuries, BTW, moms trailer doesn't have a basement, but my house does.

The only thing I would add, you might want to look into a Milwaukee (or other vendor) battery powered jacket. Had someone move up from the south, didn’t take my advice and froze their ass off until they did.
