I agree that the reporting is lackluster, but there probably isn't anything else to report until the incident is further investigated.

But how can you assume that the police work is "terrible" without good reporting? If you automatically assume that every time a suspect or perpetrator dies, it's the police's fault, that shows a lot of bias on your part.

Makes sense. We gained 20 + million people since 2010… then had a pandemic which fueled incredible division, inequality, domestic violence, and a rush on gun sales.

How many cops were killed by citizens in 2021 vs previous years?

The fact that more people were killed by police in 2021 needs additional analysis to draw any take-aways about police-work trends, especially ones that would lead a reporter to draw conclusions in this specific case.
