Hey all, I have a lifted 1986 Toyota 4Runner that I just registered in NH, was just told by the inspection place that you can’t have more than a 20 inch height from the front bumper or 30 inches if it’s a truck (technically an SUV)
How have y’all gotten your off road rig registered in New Hampshire?
No but just eyeballing it it’s probably around mid 20s, but again they said it’s only 30 inches to the bumper on trucks and this isn’t classified as that

They don’t classify it as that. It would be classified as a “Multipurpose Passenger Vehicle”.
Which would follow this law

Glad I can help. If you look at your registration, it’ll show how the state classified it. Definitely measure for yourself so you know if it’s legal.

I just got my 21 trail boss inspected and it has 4 inches of lift on it and very dark tinted front windows. I went to a place in Manchester that stuck the sticker on in less than 10 minutes. Where did you bring your Toyota to? The big name companies are strict with that shit, definitely try a more lenient place.

Did they flag your vehicle , like did you go for a sticker and they ran it? If so you’re flagged and in the system now. Most shops won’t touch you, Nh is super strict, from my experience.
No they didn’t even take my money, they said it’s not going to pass at all and suggested I find a more lenient place? They were nice about it but didn’t feel comfortable just giving me a sticker

As long as they didn’t, flag it in the computer in the Toyota is clean, just go to a different inspection station
They didn’t even charge me for an inspection, they just saw it and told me it’s not going to pass

Just under 4 inches on 35 inch tires
Shouldn’t be an issue. My dad used to have an ‘85 4Runner set up similarly and didn’t have any problems

That’s quite odd. We used to do our inspections at our local Toyota dealer, no issues. If your close to Manchester, Ira Lexus has done some work on my modified LX and they inspect similar vehicles all the time. Shouldn’t have issues bringing in a 4Runner for just an inspection

Most likely. I’d shoot their service center an email just to confirm, they’ve been great. If not, I’d try a couple local Toyota dealers, they should be happy to help
People normally keep a set of "inspection tires". Something tiny that will bring the vehicle down to spec. Not saying I condone it.. but that's what many people do. Other option if you ride private trails is to trailer it, if you can afford a daily-driver/tow-rig.
