I was there when it happened. Good ol’ MLK day skiin. Love to ski on holidays, Idk why lol. When you have the day off you might as well, you know? Anyway me and my friend got up real early to go, about 6:30. It was snowing when I got up and throughout the day. It was cloudy but when we got there the conditions were really good. Fresh powder on the first runs are the best.

But as the day went on the conditions got shitty. Like downright horrible. Probably the worst I’ve ever seen Gunstock. Not sure how it happened but it just got super bumpy. It was very hard to ski in and not for a beginner. I fell pretty bad and almost rolled an ankle. My friend also fell even though we’re both veteran skiers and never fall.

We kept on passing people who fell and seeing them wipe out while on the lift. We heard sirens as well but had no idea it was for someone there or something that serious. I read the article and it said she was on the derringer trail and she hit her head on a rock while losing control. Pretty scary stuff. If your ever in a situation where the conditions are that bad just ski off to the side - no moguls or bumps there.

Do you any idea how she managed to hit a rock? Like did she ski off the edge of the trail into a rocky area and fell and hit her head? Do we know if she had a helmet on? Tragic regardless. Just trying to envision exactly what occurred.

News stories report that she did indeed have a helmet on.

I was there Saturday and Sunday and conditions were very icy and extremely crowded.

It’s been a real crummy snow season at a lot of places. That means more blown snow, which is blown only on the ski trails. Likely she went off the trail into an area with less snow on the ground.

Not sure if she had a helmet on but it wouldn’t surprise me I’d she didn’t. Also she lost control that’s the only thing I know.

It was super icy under the fresh snow at my local ski spot in western Maine on Monday. once enough runs had been done the surface was back down to rough and icy. By the afternoon a lot of folks had called it a day because the trail conditions were just awful.

skiing along the side is actually what caused her to go into the woods, she was extremely good at skiing and unfortunately hit a mogul sending her into the woods

True moguls are off to the side. But on that particular day it was the opposite for some reason. Bumpy in the middle and ok on the sides. Either way very unfortunate.
