Visiting and eventually moving to New Hampshire :)

So I’m visiting Nh in February with my boyfriend and a few of his friends from New England and I’ve never been! I’m very excited! We’ll be there from early Friday morning through Monday evening. We’re staying near Barrington for one night and getting a bnb Dover/ Rochester/ Portsmouth area on Saturday/ Sunday night. We’re looking for fun things to do that weekend! Maybe an easier trail if there’s one around. I’m really into being outside/ any live music or open mics/ coffee shops / cool vintage stores/ silly pop up shops/ markets. I’m also down to do kitschy touristy stuff :-) My boyfriend loves craft breweries and metal music. (God, we sound awful but I promise we’re cool) He’s also misses New England pizza more than anything and I’d love to take him to a really really good pizza place/ and or Italian restaurant. We’ll also have transportation and would like to explore within an hour or so of the previously mentioned region.

Stonehouse pond in Barrington is a very easy walk.

Tons of breweries in the area. Concord and Manchester have plenty, so do Dover and Portsmouth.

I recommend Stoneface in Newington (between Dover and Portsmouth) if you have to pick just one.

Barrington / Northwood have "antique alley" (just google it).

Patty B's is the best Italian in the seacoast, imo.

For good Pizza I recommend La Festa in Dover Northwood Brewery in Northwood.

Also recommend checking out Over The Moon Farmstead in Pittsfield while you're in the Barrington area.

Dover / Portsmouth / Durham are great areas for your age. I lived in Dover in my 20s. Check out Portland, ME too.

They're pricy areas to live, though.

Edit: P.S. If anyone on this sub gets political or rude just pretend you didn't see it. We've got some real jackasses that like to comment on every "moving to NH" post.

Pizza here kind of sucks compared to italian pizza (ours is mostly Greek style) so don't get your boyfriend's hopes up, haha. Other than that, seeing a lot of good reccos in this thread already.

Liars Bench and Earth eagle are definitely breweries to check out in portsmout. Earth eagle has some good (interesting food, even more interesting beer). But there's a lot of good food in portsmouth outside of the breweries as well.

Sounds like you'd also be into Book & Bar (portsmouth).

In Dover, Garrison City Brewing is def worth checking out. Empty Pint is not.

If you go north, it's def worth stopping in Concord at Feathered Friend Brewing - open every day.

I agree -- it's great! not "Italian" pizza though. Anyone expecting what they would describe as "real" pizza would be disappointed.

and if you call it "Flatbread" -- it ain't pizza.

Portsmouth breweries I can think of:

Cisco (formerly redhook) At Pease (big!)

Downtown:
Portsmouth Brewery (original brewpub, fist in state and one of earliest generally)
Earth Eagle (smaller but has some food. love it.)

Not far from downtown down Islington ST:

(I can't remember which have food options others likely to chime in.)
Liars Bench
Great Rhythm

I'm sure I am missing some but that is an easy day tour.

If you skip Cisco you can walk em all in an epic trip (2 miles) starting at Loaded Question and heading into downtown. You should have a place to crash downtown cuz gonna get sloppy. I made a map that included a couple of pubs too. Lemme know if interested.

For Italian in Downtown Portsmouth:

Ristorante Massimo - very fancy! you will need reservation well in advance.

Cafe Mediterraneo - Classic nice Italian restaurant - reservation probably good also as weekends are hard in general for walk in for any restaurant downtown.

For pizza in Portsmouth, go to The Flatbread Company. (I assume it’s still there) Brick oven made right in the dining room. Usually busy, but excellent.

Dante's in Barrington is a pretty good italian restaurant. But Ristorante Massimo in Portsmouth is the tops around here (pricey and exclusive... reservations required). Another really good restaurant is The Farm in Dover. I am also partial to Barrio in Portsmouth (tacos).

The Press Room in portsmouth frequently has live music. I haven't been there in ages... but I'm going this saturday to see a show. Stone Church as someone else mentioned in Newmarket has live music frequently as well.
If you're just driving around looking at the area and want to kill some time during the day... Crackskull's Coffee and Books in Newmarket is an awesome little coffee shop. Might want to consider Newmarket as a potential place to live as well. There's also a trail along the Lamprey River in Newmarket... access through a trailer park on the opposite side of the river from downtown.

For walks.. can't go wrong at Odiorne state park.. then drive the coastline, stopping at different places to gaze at the ocean.

New England pizza? Does he mean New Haven pizza? It’s the best pizza in the country. The rest of New England has shitty pizza. Don’t go out of your way to visit any pizza place in NH.
