When you say "big house", how big are we talking? Because $1700/month on oil is crazy.
That is not crazy it is absolutely peel off your face and set yourself on fire insane.
Seriously. There's a big house in my area that is really nice, it's probably about 4500 sq feet. It'd be an awesome place to live but then when I think about what they must be paying for electricity and heating, I remember why I chose a more modest place.
It's about 4k sf of heated area, two 18' walls made of glass, double height ceilings on a lake. It's bad. Our insulation was nonexistant at that point too.
Sounds like a really nice house at least haha
Yeah that sounds cheap.
Dang, that's wild.
Wait is the baseboard heat electric? Is their. Gas furnace? Gas oven/stove or electric?
10 showers a day is absolutely ridiculous
HAHAH oops i meant a week. fixing it
Thank god haha
But I'm just so dirty
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
How you doin, BALLS_SMOOTH_AS_EGGS?
I’m guessing it should say 10 minute hot showers or something like that
I meant 10 showers a week, funny mistake haha
One would hope. You never know with people anymore. Water waste is my biggest pet peeve so I probably jumped to a conclusion, thanks

Here's a data point: 3000 sqft house made in 1999 with sprayed in urathane insulation in walls and 2+ feet of blown in attic insulation, modern windows etc. I pay about $750 a month in propane to heat it in the winter.
Oil heating a house twice that size costs $600/mo. So that seems like a good deal.
$160 a month for heat sounds like a dream at this point. Our oil tank was just refilled yesterday and I’m already dreading the bill
Yea that’s on par for liberty. You can always call and complain about high bill they should at least come clock your appliances make sure they are burning within 10% range of their rating.
Sounds cheap
Yup
Unfortunately for you, yeah.
We paid a lot more last year per month to heat a home twice that size last year before we got our pellet stove
Was easily $650-$750 worth of oil deliveries per month. I’ve read somewhere it’s like 5 gals a day on avg
Consider yourself fortunate if you have gas heat and hot water. That is usually the cheapest heating option besides wood, which is dirtier and requires more work.
You could try setting your heat to 60 degrees at night and throw on an extra blanket if needed. My thermostat is 60 at night and 64 during the day. Heating at night when it is colder outside is more expensive than heating during the day.
Liberty is double the price of Unitil so yeah this seems normal.
Our first year in our townhome we had really high gas bills for the winter: 1300sqft and an old gas hot water heater, our bill ranged $300-$400 a month. Replaced the water heater with a tankless on-demand and replaced our drafty windows with new ones, and my bill dropped considerably. That investment has paid for itself.

I’m using $600 a month in oil this winter for heating in a newer well insulated 3000 sq ft house with 2 people and I supplement it with my mini split which is using about $160 a month in electricity.
Yup, sounds about right. I'm paying 1500/mo for a 1700 square foot house.
1,200 sq ft townhouse with Liberty. NG bill last month was $93. Electricity was $240 but prices doubled last summer and $120 seems about right for last year at this time. We have had $200 NG bills several years ago during the winter but NG was really expensive and we used a lot of it. This winter has been mild so far.
I was gonna say you’re really lucky, actually. Then my dumbass remembered to adjust for square footage. You’re pretty spot on for my usage.
Just so you know, that bill would’ve been about $110 this time last year. I used the same therms as last year, and my bill increased about 50%.
Don’t criticize the foreign policy responsible for this fleecing, or the bots hosted in Raytheon Acres, Virginia will downvote you into oblivion.
I live in a 2500 sq foot house and keep it at 64 and pay 525/mo but I never let it go below half way. I’m too lazy to do the math but I gave you all the pertinent numbers lol

Sounds right.
Is it gas or oil?
I would kill for a $160/month heating bill. We have a big house, but when we first moved in, we kept the house at 60 an paid about $1700/month on oil. Luckily, we put a wood stove in and cut the cost down to pretty much nothing.
