I’m a retired Trooper (not from NH) my agency uses a follicular test. Either way, any drug use, from a legal state or not, will be found out during the polygraph portion of the process. You also may be interested in knowing, that regardless if some states have legalised recreational marijuana use, it is still illegal for police officers.
So the person is willing to lie on the application and during the hiring process for a position of trust?
It’s a urinalysis and they will pick up THC from October which will prompt a bunch of follow up questions which will cause him to perjure himself.
And if the proctor tells you that the test strip is on their chest, don’t fall for it…friggin’ Ronnie is such a clown…tell him I said hi…actually don’t tell him but let me know if he asks about me.
Sounds about right for a cop
Fucking pigs
Is that what you are Most Expert at?
I mean, you may want to check if anyone actually cares about past use before worrying much about it.
I know the feds basically only care if you're lying about it, if you've got a history of addiction, or if you're going to do it while employed.
Oh I bet he is.
What state doesn't tell its Troopers that a polygraph is junk science?
Yet another reason to not go into law enforcement. Other than hurting people, taking their money, separating families, and on and on and on
But they can be raging alcoholics, and no one bats an eye... Gotta love our priorities as a society.
Alcohol isn’t illegal on the federal level, cannabis is. States laws don’t trump federal laws. Carrying a firearm by anyone who uses illegal drugs is against federal law. See how that works?
I am well aware of the legal reasoning, thanks. That doesn't change the fact that in practice it's a moronic double standard.
If you had any clue about law enforcement recruiting and the hiring process for COLEA certified agencies, you’d know that the polygraph is not only a requirement, but it is used as tool to further the selection process. The purpose of this is to place a truthful candidate at ease and also to heighten the anxiety of a candidate that might have something to hide. Based on the answers and the subjects reaction to questions, the examiner can use that response to dig deeper. Yeah, you are correct in that polygraphs are not always reliable and thus aren’t admissible in court. However, as a hiring tool, they are invaluable for rooting out unfit candidates. It’s not uncommon for polygraphs to to discover a history of Illegal activity, heavy drug use, illicit sex activities including beastiality and pedophelia, and ulterior motives for wanting the job.
How’s it a double standard? Federal law is federal law. Whether you agree with the law or not, it must be followed. I would think the communities we serve would expect that much. I think the feds have compromised quite a bit by not clamping down on states that have legalised weed. At any time they could choose to enforce cannabis laws in those states, however they have not.
Sure as long as you don’t get the pig’s opinion.
Easy, easy, me officer. How about the fact that they cut one leg of the chair shorter than the other? Or ask questions like, ‘do you look in the toilet after you shit’…what’s that telling us? And if you know the administrator or know someone who knows the administrator, none of it matters.
They do not rule out bad candidates as evidenced by that Laurie list of shitty cops in the state that continue to be supported as law enforcement even though they are known liars. If it worked, there would be no list because the cops hired would be great people.
The polygraph is a farce.
And my tip to the person who posted this, shave the head, drink tons of water, and deny deny deny. If they can’t prove it, don’t admit to it. Do not waiver from the denial because they WILL mess with you and say something came up when it didn’t. They just mindfuck you into contradictions yourself.
Also, also, don’t be a cop. Sorry retired officer, I respect good cops, but there is a generation of people that don’t respect any cops. Too much risk and very little reward.
A lot of em do.

We need good cops. I feel your frustration, but don’t hate on all cops. They will still show up to help if you call them. Or run into a burning home to rescue you.

Allow me to spell it out for you: It is a double standard for alcohol to be legal while cannabis is not; especially when the consequences of alcohol abuse are many times worse than the consequences of cannabis abuse. It is a legal distinction which can, and should, be changed.
I'm sorry but if a cop is going to be cheating to not fail a drug test for laws that they will undoubtedly enforce on others, I get to call that cop a pig
Tell your friend to get literally any other job, something honorable perhaps

It's a mood ring with a billion dollar reputation. The only use for a polygraph is to bully the gullible into saying what you want.
I see what you’re saying…and I kind of agree. I think cops should be able to smoke weed. It’s a great way to deal with stress that is not alcohol. But pigs need to be weeded out for sure (no pun intended)
Okay, I agree with you 100%. When you said double standard, I thought you were implying that officers aren’t allowed to partake in cannabis. I agree, alcohol is far worse than cannabis and aught to be legalised federally. However, that is not the case.
Huh?? Yeah, it is junk science. And slavery was once legal, but we don’t do that anymore either, so finding out something is bullshit is good. And yeah, physical fitness that differs by age and sex is bullshit too. Just means a woman is more likely to fear for her life and shoot someone rather than a man who can defend himself. All these cop rules are broken routinely in order to hire sons, daughters, and other people who shouldn’t be cops. Fuk the hiring process. It’s bullshit and clearly doesn’t work
You’re clearly an expert on polygraphs, which is why I’m surprised that you don’t know that selection process polygraphs are based solely on answers that the applicant gives on a pre-test. No one is bullied into answering one way or another.

Sounds like a promising start.
