Looking for an Apartment for the Fall

Hi Everyone!

My girlfriend was recently accepted into a PhD program at Yale, and her and I will be making the move to New Haven in the fall.

The housing options seem endless (as do the red flags). I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on which buildings/which property managers we should look into?

I've seen good things about some of the buildings downtown, as well as the East Rock area as a whole. We are open to both, and any other places you might suggest.

Budget wise, we are looking to keep it under 2,300/month but can go a little higher if needed. Onsite parking would also be a huge plus!

I live in this apartment building right now and I have no major complaints. I also lived in another building managed by them, and had a positive experience there too, so worth poking around their other options as well.

I found my original apartment on Yale’s housing website (not student housing, but they have a portal where non-Yale apartments can post), so it might be worth checking that out too!

The big companies to avoid are Farnham, Pike, and Mandy. Definitely recommend East Rock!

East Rock and downtown are good bets. East Rock will be cheaper, but less access to bars, restaurants, and shops (15-20 minutes rather than 5-10 minutes). You won't need to go above 2,300 a month.

Be cautious with reichman Brody - he had us without heat in 2021 after I discovered a multi unit gas leak primarily affecting my apartment, from October through March and had 0 sympathy. (The first week of it we had no gas to cook with or hot water, his response was to go stay at a homeless shelter or go buy a gym membership).

His apartments are cheaper but he’s a complete asshole and unresponsive to matienence requests.

Came back here to add that my other two neighbors in my building have been without heat and water for two days and have called LCI on them. ☹️

I live in 900 chapel street apartment complex and can refer you if you'd like. The apartments have huge windows and are beautiful

Yes Seabury Hill seems good. We used them for our place in Westville. Consider Westville- it’s a great neighborhood.

Rent is hard to find here , East Rock is a good area

Stay away from Fair Haven & Newhallville

$2300 a month? Dude that's a mortgage. Why don't you buy a house/condo and sell later? Don't piss that away on rent.
