Listen, if you're a liberal and especially if you are involved with Yale - do something constructive. There are tens of thousands of people in the city whose living standards are practically third world. That is far more important than "hate crimes", most of which are of dubious veracity.

The crime is the best and brightest of the world can't figure out how to turn neighborhoods next to their university campus into something other than a slum.

Agreed that more could be done to revive the poorest neighborhoods, but it takes a city to rebuild a city.

It is not the job of a journalist to do what 130K+ people have not, or even to report exclusively on that failure until something is done, although I'm sure that the time will come again and again and again when they report on just that.

You can't solve all the problems in the world in one go, and you can't report on all the problems in the world in one go. This particular time, the story just happens to be on a different issue affecting the city.

A journalist's gotta make a living, and we should respect that, even if we disagree with their choice of topic.

Thanks! I will definitely be doing this. And I do agree that this is not very constructive topic. But a teacher at my high school brought me along a field trip to a naturalization program and wanted me an article in the school newspaper somewhere on the topic of immigration and race. Probably should have clarified I’m in high school, apologies.

Is this specific to any group or region? Such as hate crimes only in New Haven, in CT, New England, etc? Is it specific to POC or LGBTQ, etc?

Depending on the answers, my wife would be willing to speak with you.

Afaik you can book one of the tutor rooms in the downtown branch of the library for free. I’ve used it for a semi-private but still public place to conduct and interview before
