I have a 2001 GMC Savana van that needs a new starter and looking for a mechanic that have get towed to locally to do the work that won’t kill the bank. AAA had East Rock Auto Repair where could have towed to but wasn’t going to leave at a place not knowing if can do.

Ah 2nd this. It will usually get you a good few turnovers before it sticks entirely.
Don't even have to do it gently, I used to wail on my old vw starters with a rubber mallet because I swear they'd blow out every year.
Better if you have someone turn it over while doing but not always a necessity.
Check the ground/battery connections too as a just in case.

I’ll have them try that as not with the vehicle.

Here’s a guide the guy spelled emergency wrong though:
I recommend Tripp’s on Whalley. Rich is a great guy

Just had some work done at Chucks Garage in West Haven. Great honest service and fair price.

I really like Ricks in Hamden. They do a nice job and I’m usually surprised by how inexpensive it is.
I’ve used East Rock Auto as well and they’re fine in a pinch.

I've had good experiences with Accurate Auto Repair.

I take my fleet to Amity motors and have had a few personal cars through them as well.
Brent is a pretty fair guy. Not bottom of the barrel pricing but fair for whatever work it may be.

Thanks. I have my mechanic in Shelton but for the cost to tow is a lot since stupid me let my membership lapse.

You may look into a service like wrench or your mechanic if getting it there is an issue.
They don't service every area in CT but I've had good luck with those services out west for really simple repairs like a starter.

I checked Wrench out and a good price but no mechanics in New Haven, can put Derby but no appointments showing. Oh well as was about $90 less than my mechanic.

Well I haven’t had it done yet as bringing it later today.

Have you tried tapping the starter gently with a hammer while someone turns the ignition? May be able to avoid the tow.
