Lake waramaug in new Preston is nice. Black Rock in Thomaston. Hamanasett for beach camping.

Scotland CT. State park. Freaking beautiful place.

There is a lot in the way back by the river.... I recommend this spot

White memorial foundation. They are old fashioned but very nice and chill. You will probably have to call and send a check and then they will call back to confirm. $30 a night 2 night minimum I think and right on Bantam lake. I rented a canoe in Canton on my way there last time.

I really like Housatonic Meadows State Park, but the Northwest corner of the state can be a bit of a trek. Hamanasett is also fun, but more RV oriented as far as I've seen.

Odetah campground in Bozrah is on a lake with boat and canoe rentals. They have a decent tent area or you can rent a cabin

had a terrible time there. the tent sites are full of rocks and bee's.

I'd personally go to Vermont. Superior state park system with pristine camp grounds. I've struck out many times in CT, so many places are private with densely packed sites or otherwise super "family friendly" i.e. RV sites

I see. It's only a 3 hour drive to Coolidge State Park. But if your kids are super little then that may not work.
